Yes, you can have a bad diff without noise. If teh diff is bad, then the noise is coming.
To check the axle you can jack up the front end, both sides. Then have someone hold one tire while you turn the other. They should turn in oppisite directions.

#2- the way my bonnie works you can put in auto mode and set the temp up or down and it adjusts the fan speed on its own. if you start messing with the fan settings it takes it out of auto and does what you entered.
#3- take the seat out and see if you can see what going on under there. its usually two or four bolts and a couple connectors.

Thank you for #2 & #3. This is the fanciest car I've ever owned (in 30+ years). I'm used to shifting gears, locking doors, and rolling down windows manually.
#2 - that'* what I thought, but it always seems either too cold or too hot inside the car.
Please allow me to make sure I understand...when I first start the car and set the temp at 70 (95+ outside) it runs full fans and gets the car cold inside (yea!!), but after it'* real cold, shouldn't it lower the fan speed and kick the system in/out occasionally to keep it at 70? So, ANY adjustment to temp or fan speed causes the auto system to disengage?
I'm old school, used to adjusting temp and fan speed manually, is there any way to make it do it old school?
One other REALLY important question re: climate control/auto position buttons: Is there a way to make the beeps NOT beep when I push these buttons? It is difficult to explain why I need the beeps to go away, but please know it is very important for the well-being of Cupcake, my daughter (dog). She goes everywhere with me, and can't ride in the new car because of the beeps.
#3 - Up until the last few years I did all maintenance and/or parts replacements on my vehicles. It'* just a little harder than it used to be to get on/off my knees. Won't be the first seats I've ever taken out of a car (none with connections though), I'll give it a shot and see what I see.

Dan, I really appreciate your help, truly.
Will check axles using lift when go to shop for code and trans oil pressure checks. What do I do to check diff? My Mechanic (Kevin) will know, but I always like to know as much as possible before speaking with him.

in auto the fans should scale back like you say. i think in auto if you adjust the temp it stays in auto but if you hit the fan it knocks it out and goes to what fan setting you pushed. theres no manual mode, but its like the house if you find a comfortable setting you shouldnt have to touch it ever. dont know about the beeps but same deal if you let it do what it has to you shouldnt have to mess with the buttons.

Bill, Thank you for the words of encouragement. I've always owned used (except one new in 1989), and can attest to the trials and tribulations of same. With a little doctoring, maybe she'll turn out to be the best car ever, but she sure does have some big shoes to fill replacing the 1993 LeSabre. Cindy

I understand. I'll keep working with it until I know, 70 must be too cold, and I'll leave the fans alone.
