Hey all!

I started to notice a little oil around one of the bolts on my 1999 Buick Century'* valve cover (I am assuming that is what it is). Here is a picture of the area I am referring to:

You can easily see the culprit in the pictures. Is this an easy fix? I am assuming I can go to the auto shop, buy a pack of new grommets, pull off that bolt, clean everything up, and screw in the bolt with the new grommet? I do not see any leaking around any of the other grommets, just this particular one.

Your exactly right..Remove bolt,remove grommet,clean it all up,install new grommet and new bolt..And i cant recall but i beleive there may be a 'torque for those..We will have to wait for dan or bill

Personally if i was messing with it id lift the valve cover off and change the gasket to..ive never bought just the grommets before they might come in a set with the valve cover gaskets only now that i think about it

Honestly, I am not sure if I want to pull it all apart. I am assuming you have to drain the oil first? I do not see any oil leaks around the cover itself, just the one screw. Here is a bigger picture (the one I meant to add to my original post):

No you do not have to drain the oil first.No oil resides in the top end it all sets in the pan unless youve just added it or if its just been running.I guess if it aint broke dont fix it right?.If its just the grommet replace it and be done with it nice and simple !

For now, since that is the only problem I can see, I will just replace the grommet and clean the area up. The first sign of any other leaks I see in that area and I will replace it all, just to be safe.

I am neither Dan nor Bill, nor do I claim to be, but my book says the valve cover bolts should be tightened to 88 inch-pounds.

You normally get valve cover bolt grommets bundled with a set of valve cover gaskets. I'd replace both if you have the time or money. Some years have been known to throw oil onto the manifold.

You can get just the grommets for around 8.00 at Autozone, or whatever local parts store you have near you.

For about 10.00 you can replace the valve cover gaskets, you are already going to have the bolts out of them, I'm sure this is something you won't want to do again any time soon, besides to be honest I have never head of those leaking, I was under the impression they were there mainly so you do not over-torque the valve cover bolts, and crack the valve cover..

88-89 inch lbs for the bolts to the valve cover are right.
