1998 Buick Regal Radiator Flushing
 

Hello Guys, I heard that flushing some GM vehicles isn't as simple as we think. I have a 1998 Buick Regal LS with 41,500 original miles and I want to replace radiator cap, thermostat and do the flushing. I heard not only the radiator has to be flushed but also the engine ??? ... something about taking the air out too ... anyone please can enlight me ??? ... Thx

The only real problem is in filling and purging the system. We always lift the front 30 to 40 inches and that will cause the air to move up and out the radiator.

This purges any car with a radiator cap so easily..........remove cap, attach funnel, start car, fill funnel up couple inches from the bottom, as the car warms up the level will rise slightly, then when normal operating temp is reached and thermostat opens, the level will drop below the funnel and air is purged, you top off fluid to bottom of funnel, remove funnel attach cap, and shut car off....make sure reservoir is at least full to hot mark........as car cools, fluid is sucked out of reservoir.....check level in reservoir when engine is cold....make sure full to cold level.....easy peasy.....

Forgot to mention, there are plugs on each side of the engine.....remove from block.......with thermostat removed, send water through thermostat housing, and this will flush any coolant out of the block.....have pans ready to catch fluid when you remove the plugs and flush it(you don't want any animals drinking that coolant)...... also would be a good time to BACKFLUSH the heater core, also.....

If you don't have a good vacuum tool, like what Vacula makes, you'll want to raise the entire front end. It'll do it good for you.
