Default Replaced key fob and now car won’t start and just cranks over a little

1995 Buick LeSabre. I switched the key fob with another factory one following these instructions and now the car won’t start.

Also, if it just cranks over a little, have you checked the battery, alternator and the starter?

Check battery cable connections, and then check voltage across the battery with a voltmeter, while cranking.....should be above 9.6 volts....

The thing is I have never had a problem like this, it was just fine and I programmed the fob and then now when you turn the key it cranks like normal for about one second and then stops completely, I just wondered if it was in some sort of security lock from doing the fob, it cranks like I said then all stops and almost sounds like it backfires and then smells like gas too

I looked in the owners manual under the service key info and it has the symptoms of the key not being recognized which are the starter only being able to crank for a second and the fuel injectors disabled

CAN'T HELP YOU, IF YOU DON'T ANSWER QUESTIONS.......

Told you the Key fob has nothing to do with starting the car.....

Do you have a resistor pellet(black with metal contacts) on the the shaft of the ignition key?

When you turn the key to on(don't crank), look at the SECURITY light in the dash......it shouild come on for 3 seconds and then go out....Does it go out?

Have you scanned for codes?

I was going to also say, on the 95'* security only shuts off the injectors, but allows engine crank(which is dumb), 96 and later they changed it to crank.

Yes, the key fob only operates the door locks and boot release. Remember the rule that correlation does not equal causation. Just a coincident that this happened after you replaced the key fob.

Now, at this point you need to do troubleshooting. Since the starter will only turn over for a second then stop it sounds like a voltage issue. Do you near any clicking sounds such as a relay would make? A starter requires a lot of current and it is possible that you have enough for an initial turn but then it is gone. I don't know about the 95 but I did have a 93 and as far as I recall, the engine will turn over regardless. Oh, wait, could the engine be hydrolocked due to the bad design of the coolant lower intake and the upper plenum? If that is the case, then DON"T attempt to start the car as you could damage the engine. I would check this first before anything else.

Oh wait, when did the coolant leak start on the 3800? Was it 95 or later? Still, something could be keeping the engine from turning over so that should still be investigated. If the engine is free to turn over, then we can move on and look at other reasons the starter turns for a second and stops.

95 was the beginning of the Series 2 L36. 1996 came the 3800 Series 2 L67. So, yes, 1995 was the year.
