1997 2.4L stock rebuild balancing shaft chain adjustment
Hello all, In the middle of doing a 1997 2.4L engine rebuild stock and have a question on the balancing shaft chain adjustment. All data is calling for .040 gap between the chain and guide using a brass feeler gage. With around 3lb tension. After doing this seems like the chain is still pretty lose. Anyone ever install this chine before? And did you think the same?
Thanks

This is attach to the blanching shaft on the lower part of the engine. the chain and sprockets where in great shape so i left them in there. guides and cover are new. below is a video check it out and let me know what you think.

Use a fish scale to get 3 lbs tension then rotate the engine over a few times.
The chain is loose in the video on the other side because there is no tension on the whole chain until you rotate it.
The sprockets isolate the tension on the one side until you rotate it.
You might need to adjust it more the one time to get all the slack out.
So adjust rotate a few times check rotate a few more times.

Ok sounds good ill give that a try later this week. also when the time comes do you know of a way to pre oil this engine? I was thinking of just turning the engine over with the spark plugs out until l the oil light went out. I have seen where people use pressure tanks with oil in them to pre oil the engine but i'm not sure if this can be done on this one. Unless i could feed it threw where the oil sending unit mounts to. I did use pre lube on every thing. any how thanks again for you info.
