Default Battery cable bolt needs replacing . . .

I have a 1999 Buick Regal LS that just got a brand new battery. In my quest to remove the old battery, I discovered that the negative post bolt was stripped. So stripped that it was round. I would like to replace just the bolt and not the cable itself or do any splicing.

Any tips or tricks, or am I pretty much stuck with replacing the cable?

Check at Wal-Mart, they should have battery bolts there.

Default Replacement bolts.

Wish it were that simple. But it'* not. The bolt appears to be part of the cable itself yet loose.

The bolt will come out but you have to get the larger part of the bolt through the insulation kind of like screwing it out. I just changed mine so I know it works.

Using a pick or small screwdriver, go in by the bolt head and work your way out to the edge of the bolt. Prying the boot off the bolt, you'll find if you work around it..the bolt will come out by itself.
