Default Mod/performance opinions

I have a 1997 Riviera with the supercharged 3800 and wanted to go to a true dual exhaust with a little (maybe a little more than a little) fuller sound and possible increase performance some. What would be some recommendations as far as mufflers go. I wasnt really planning on going all the way to the motor with headers(but maybe) so I would also want to know if there is some other than stock converter to use for the dual set up. Anything you all can tell me would be appreciated. Thanks

There are "performance" catalytic converters available. I don't know how much of a difference that makes, but I have one on my car and it gets the job done. The one bit of advice I will give is don't lose your resonator. The exhaust tends to get raspy without it.

I think mine sounds pretty good and I ran a 3" DP through a 3" CAT and Resonator then 3" pipe back to the factory 2.5" Y that splits to duals in the back with factory mufflers.

The hi flow cat from Magnaflow is kinda iffy. Tends to throw codes on a lot of cars. I recommend just getting the SpeedDaddy headers on ebay (they were only about $200 when I got them) and do 3" down the center (cat/res/pipe). May as well do it right or not do it at all

Thanks for the info! I guess ive kind of reconsidered going to the true dual, and Ive also heard that going to a 3" can cause me to lose some lower end torque.. Any thoughts on that. Im guessing since you both went to 3", that there is probably not much to worry about there...Probably stick with the 2.75" change out the cat, and maybe do the mufflers depending on the sound. Still looking for input on those...

Thanks again!

Isn't true duel exhaust 2 separate exhaust pipes that never join together?

Essentially, sometimes there'* a crossover pipe but either way it would be hard to achieve with these bodies without decreasing your clearance by a good 2"

Annnd yea just reread the OP, hadn't noticed he said true dual. To the OP, that would be way more work than warranted for a 3800 FWD car. Just do a 3" single to 2.5" split at the back.

To address the torque, my car went slightly faster after I did the exhaust and that'* on a N/A motor

For mufflers it all depends on what you like. I have Cherry Bomb Pro'*, a lot of people seem to like the Magnaflows on the stock system, and there really is a large number of options for every taste

Yea, I have seen some true setups with the crossover that'* why I asked about the OP and what you were suggesting didn't seem right.

Like Brian said, that'* a lot of work to convert a FWD 3800 to a TRUE DUAL exhaust system. And depending on how your state can be, they may insist on 4 O2 sensors for emissions and I highly doubt your PCM can be programmed for 4 O2 sensors. 2 upstream and 2 down stream. 2 on each bank.
