Will 17 inch Bonneville rims work on a GXP with 18 inch rims

Im wanting to put 17 inch Chrome Bonneville rims on my GXP that came with 18 inch rims since I got my 18 inch rims chromed and want to take them off in the winter to keep them nice.I noticed the GXP has 12.7 inch rotors in the front and the SLE with the 17 inch rims has 11.9 rotors in front and wondered if the 17 inch rims would clear the calipers. The back rims have plenty of room so no need to worry about them.Has anyone done this?If so please let me know as I know where I ca get a set of 17 inch rims and tires.Thanks[/list][/b]

I put a set of 17 inch rims on my GXP. They aren't chrome mind you. Just boring steel rims. (They dont look very good, but stand up well to snow and ice) I put Dunlop Winter sport M3's on (P235/55R17). They are a excellent tire for snow and ice. The rims clear the front calipers (by about 1/4 inch). I went to numerous wheel and tire outlets and they all said there was enough clearance with the 17" rims. I have had no problems. I was told the the outside diameter of the tire should be almost identical to factory. Apparently if there is a sizable deviation from factory size there could be problems with the Traction Control and ABS systems. (At least thats what I was told) Outisde diameter of factory tires is 27.3. You should have no problems finding the rims at any major rim and tire dealer.

Thanks for your reply.I just bought the 17 inch chrome Bonneville rims.I dont know why the Chrome factory rims hold up in snow and these 18 inch GXP rims were starting to show some spots.Maybe they arent Chrome but they sure look like chrome.I did change to ceramic brake pads and that really helped. It seemd like the brake dust from the semi-metllic linings were putting small rust spots on the rims and when the rims were still painted silver I had orange rust spots on them I think from the metal in the metalic linings. It was hard to wash them off also.Theceramic just wipes off real easy.Ill never have anything but ceramic on any of my cars anymore.Hardly any brake dust.

They'll work all right but won't look good! ;)

The rims I bought are the chrome rims off a 2005 SLE Bonneville.Might be like yours on your SLE.I like them better than any of the other ones on the Bonnevilles and they are chrome. My car wont look like A GXP but it will save my rims in these Ohio winters since I got my GXP rims chromed.I like the color of your car.I seen a 2005 GXP in the Cranberry Red at a dealer in Fort Wayne Indiana a few weeks ago and it was th first time I seen a Bonneville in that color since my car is a 2004 and they did not have that color in 2004.As a matter of fact the dealer had 3 2005 GXPs still that were left overs and not used cars. The other cars were Crimson tintcoat and graystone metallic.
