help with 04 gxp magnasteer...
My mothers car (which is still under warranty and is going to the dealer) has been giving her problems lately. Is there any known problems with this new magnasteer technology becuase she is always complaining at the fact that when she is cruising around that her steering gets VERY loose and sloppy...im just wondering if this is common and if anybody elses gxp has had this happen...thanks for your input in advance

This is the first time I've heard of this happening actually. On both of our 2000 Bonnevilles, and my Aurora, the faster you go, the tighter and more responsive the steering becomes. It could be a bad steering rack possibly? not sure. Does the steering get tighter as speed increases, or does it always stay soft?

well all the times shes complained ive tried to take the car out and try all types of things to try and get it to go wacky like she explains it....her magnasteer feels like the one on my 96 bonnie except hers is a little more advanced...and as far as i know when i drive the car its tight at low speeds and it gets tighter and more responsive the faster i go...but my father said its done it to him to (and he knows a heck of a lot more about cars than i do) so i was just asking so maybe we could point the dealer in the right direction

Could have to do with the cars computer being at fault since you need the computer to adjust the magsteer itself. Thats an awfully short lifespan to be looking into a new rack already. Some, if not all of the bonnes in the club are using original R & P steering components.

Try turning the wheel at an complete stop. I bet it'* super easy.
Maybe they are experiencing the Magnasteer working properly and aren't expecting that much assistance at a stand still versus moving.

or...take it to a dealer or your fav mechanic that has a Tech II, and have them tighten the steering down. Being Magsteer is adjustible, it is possible to say the last time you had a service, if it was a dealer done, they couldve scanned and saw the steering was, in their own opinion" too tight and loosened it.
