Optima redtop batteries aren't normal batteries. They're completely sealed, which makes them perfect for our cars.

People over on jeepforum.com are claiming 6, 8, 9, and even 10 years on an Optima battery before it dies.
Granted, it seems that you may need some type of hose run for the breathing if they ever would need to breathe for any reason. Doesn't seem all that difficult.

I need a new battery for my 1999 SSEi. It has an optima red-top and its about 6 years old. Its getting harder and harder to start the car and the battery fails the charging test. I thought I would get a lot more out of the Optima, but 6 years is ok.
So should I spend double for another Optima or get a good regular battery? Up here in Vancouver, BC, Canada the Optima is about $200, while the regular battery I can find for the car is about $100. What are good brands of regular battery?
Anyone know good places in Vancouver to get the optima or other good battery for cheap?

Tight?. I wonder why Optima says they don't make one for the Bonneville? Possibly a liability concern over the OEM being vented? I know Optima'* are sealed, but do have blow off valves. Can you grab the part # for those that may decide to use it.
My 5 year old OEM seems as good as new, but I'm sure it going to have itz day. You would think with all the electric demands I have it would be tired, ..... but Not!
