So what exactly is the Intermediate Steering Shaft? Sounds like steering linkage to me, thus of critical safety importance.

It's frightening that so many have gone bad. Obviously a design flaw.

What other TSB's are good to have done for the GXP?

Is there any way to tell if the shaft has been replaced? I was wondering if mine has been replaced before i bought it.

I drive my GXP less than 500 miles a year. Should I bring it in and have this shaft checked?

Just took the '04 Bonne GXP in to the dealer on Monday (Jan 9). The knock in the steering wheel was caused by a defect in the Intermediate steering shaft. It was replaced under warranty as per a BULLETIN ISSUED BY GM. If any other dealer says otherwise, they're lying. The Bonne is back to her old self again. My dealer was very good servicing the car and caused no trouble about the issue at all. :D

As a side note, the car has 18,000km (11,000 ish miles) on it at the time of service and has been on the road since April of 2004.

I might as well join the Intermediate Shaft Club. I noticed some minor clunking in the steering at about 17 000 km. I probably wouldnt have noticed it immediately if it wasnt for this forum. I was kind of expecting there to be a problem. Now at 18000 km's its getting loud. Time for some more warranty work.

5.3 Avanlanche wrote the GM ackowledges the defect. But by the sounds of all the members on this site they arent fixing the problem. It would be nice if they did.

Has anyone purchased the extended warranty for this car??? I think I might consider this option. I think I would save money in the long run.
