Rack and Pinion Boots

I was under my car doing an oil change yesterday when I noticed that both rack and pinion boots seemed to be leaking in the center. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also noticed the oil cooler lines are leaking AGAIN!! Surprise.

Also having the constant Service Stability System issues.

My GMPP warranty is coming up in June so I want to get all of this taken care of before then.

well theres not suppose to be ay fluid in them boots there only a dust cover. if theres fluid coming out then your rack and pinion is leaking past the seal

Have you replaced your oil cooler lines before?

I'm asking because mine are leaking as well and I haven't gotten around to replacing them.

I agree, it's leaking by the seals. Take the time to get her in to the Dealer Man, and don't accept it back till it's all good. I am reading from a lot of sources, that goodwill and after warranty graces are a thing of the past at GM. If the warranty goes a day or mile over, you might has well burn the GMPP. Itz worthless.

They were replaced in May 2008 when the car had about 30k miles on it. So they just about lasted 2 years. I have put about 11k miles on the car since May 2008.

I have the GMPP until June 2010 (120 000 km's or 75 000 miles) however I was advised that the oil cooler lines are not covered. I will put up a fight as they have been replaced once already and didn't last that long. We will see how succesful I am. Like Venom says there probably isnt a whole lot of "Good Will' left with GM. :)

I will also stand firm on the Rack and Pinion Seals. Thanks for the advice Venom!!

She goes in on Monday and we will see whats going on with the Stabilitly System. I had the infamous "Service Stability System" 4 times on the way to work this morning.

Well.......I just got the call from the Service Advisor. The Rack and Pinion is indeed leaking. They ordered one and it wont be here for over a week as it is coming from the US. Apparently there are none in Canada.

The Stability System problem was being caused by the the steering sensor.

The oil lines are indeed leaking again but they arent willing to do anything with them. They will fix them if I want to pay $759.00, and thats not going to happen in the lifetime.

I will look at getting the parts myself and dealing with it this summer when its tolerable outside.

That's an asinine price for oil cooler lines that were clearly defective in design. The lines are $26 USD each from gmpartsdirect.com, so I really don't know where they're getting $760 from.

They said 80 a line and then the rest is labor. Oh but wait. They said they would give me 10% off. LOL. What a deal. NOT. I will get them the next time I am in the states and change em in the summer.

Its been my experience that often times you can call these dealerships on their own bluff. For example walk back in their having already purchased the parts you need from their company for 26 dollars online and then ask them to install them. They'll give you the normal bs about how they dont install outside parts, but thats when you whip out your GM parts receipt and tell to shut up and get to work.

QFT!!!

But that high of a price for labor? Seriously? What's the hourly rate up there???

I was quoted $64 per line at a Cadillac dealership here, and I told them they were out of their minds.

Has anyone here actually replaced these? Is it a difficult job to do? How long should it take?
