Question for Bonneville GXP owners
 

I own a 2005 Bonneville GXP with 6000 miles which I purchased new and I am having some problems with the drivers side door card. It seems that the material used (thin vinyl I believe) is very fragile and tears easy if you bump it when entering or exiting the vehicle. I called Pontiac to complain and they insist that it is not a defect in workmanship. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this problem. I find it hard to believe that these panels would not be designed to handle everyday use with getting in and out of the vehicle. I am not sure if my problem is unique but I hope that Pontiac will do the right thing and stand by their product.

This is a great forum and it is nice to know there are other owners out there that are enjoying their vehicles. I was impressed with the GXP since I saw it at the car show in Chicago. My last car was a 1995 Impala SS. The power and handling of the GXP is in some ways superior but I have to admit that at times I miss the RWD and torque.

tas several members have complained here of poor, thin material in the seats and and doors. And have had theirs fixed under warranty. Take it to the Dealer and tell them it needs to be fixed. If you cant get them or gM to foot the bill (stance is everything my friend, get tough) here is a copy paste I did for another member......

GM uses the BBB to arbitrate unresolvable issues and by agreement has to go by the BBB's decision. Here is their National number 800.955.5100 for arbitration hearing request forms. So if GM doesnt want to be cooperative try them. You dont qualify for the Buy Back Policy after 2 years/ 24,000 miles (whichever comes first) but if Your posturing s adamant enough, You may get them to throw ya a extended warranty. You can also help yourself and others by writing Washinton and telling them your problems, find your States Senators and Representatives and e-mail them at www.house.gov/writerep/ and www.senate.gov .

Thanks for the advice GXP Venom. I will give it a try. I already told the rep from Pontiac that I am a loyal GM owner that has purchased several GM vehicles and if I don't get this issue resolved my new new purchase will be foreign. That comment seemed to let the rep know that I was serious about this and I was told to call the rep back if my issue was not resolved by the Pontiac Dealor.

I have to admit though that besides the issues raised in this forum as well as the door card I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Glad to help and like I said try to get the Dealer to work with/for you. The issues are pretty petty in all. just a pain. and I too love my car. it was a little rushed to production, and a little lean on quality here and there but I love it's look and uniqueness. I firmly believe quality and production issues, as automation and easy economical manufactering come about, are evident across the board with American made cars. It probably just looks like the GXP has more because all all the members here in the Club detailing them. And thats a good thing. Almost all are minor flaws save the Fog Lamps and IM Shaft (which is evident in many Bonnie Models)

I think people inclined to buy them are super concerned about each square inch of a car they own so you hear alot of issues about them here. I would guess that the kind of issues raised with the GXP are ones that the average car owner wouldn't even notice. It's just that GXP owners are special people. ;)

I'm not having any problems with the door card or anything else for that matter. The last time the car was in the shop was almost a year ago and it was for a replacement foglight. The car has been very great lately and I drive it quite hard. But, on the upside, the demise of the Bonneville GXP has lead way for a new car in the Pontaic stable which I'm hoping to replace the Bonneville with in about a year.

The Bonneville is a great car (still get compliments on it to this day), but the RWD and the 6sp manual are quite tempting in the new Pontiac! :D
