yeah i just had to do thee re-learn procedure. I learned my lesson the hard way cause it took me like 5 hours so when you do it you need to ensure that all the doors are closed lol. how far are you in the process? there are things that you will need because they are different so here are a few things to consider. the front fuse box is differnt I picked on up from morad for 50 bucks other things to consider are the air box is different so your better off getting 4 inch kn cone filter cause the air box is 600 bucks or 300 from a junk yard reseller. the exhaust is different so easy fix is hollow out the cat cause the northstar runs hotter. non of your traction control or anitlock brakes will work because the abs pump/ module in the front of the car is different. and while your working on it put new oil cooler lines on it cause they are a pain to replace later and it is a known issue and they are like 25 each at the dealer. you will also need a new radiator and surge tank cause the gxp have a pressured cooling system and the ssei, sle,se dont. you will also need different drive shafts and the side engine mounts are too big on the sle for the 3.8 so youl need to take off the the metal block on them it just comes off. good luck and if you need anyhelp let me know my email is gto553@hotmail.com i can alsso send pics I just have issues uploading on here

It'* actually going in a tube-frame car I've built so most of those things I've got to take care of anyways and a lack of ABS/traction control is quite alright. I've just finished fabriacting engine mounts for it so it'* sitting in the car on it'* own weight. I'm just trying to figure what steps and modules will be necessary to complete this. I already have the matching fuse box, PCM, and engine wiring harness for the engine.

I'm wondering what it will do since I have no doors! I think I need the Dash Integration Module, the Theft Detterent Module, Ignition/Key, and the PCM. I have the PCM but none of these other modules. I'm having trouble finding the Theft Detterent Module, and Morad parts couldn't find it either. They said it was part of the ignition but the GM manual says it'* a separate module on cars with the ignition not on the column. I'm thinking of just getting the Cadillac Deville module since it is integrated all in 1 piece on the ignition column. And so, I will be using a different module/key than the PCM and was wondering if the 30-minute learn procedure would work or if I would have to take the PCM to GM to get the password reset.

I am about 99.9% sure that you will have to take the pcm to the dealer to get it programed. you should look at a a bypass module for the security system and the passkey. there is alot that plays into the security system and if you get a bypass chip... it bypasses it lol. if you could some how get a pcm from a car in the junkyard and strip out the ignition system and then get the wiring diagrams and bypass they systems.

I guess I'll give the re-learn procedure a shot and see how it goes. Worst case, I've just lost a little bit of time. I have the engine harness, PCM, fuse box, DIM, the whole dash wiring harness, and the ignition assembly w/key now. I think I just need an instrument panel to use now. If I can get it running, perhaps I can start taking off components to find what exactly is required and what isn't. I don't know if it will look for door signals if there are no door modules. The BCM isn't supposed to be part of the system according to the manual so hopefully it won't be required.

Thanks for the help/tips.

Just curious why u are going threw all the trouble of putting a N* in, instead of just doing the supercharged swap. The N* barely outdoes the SC gen II with horsepower. And the N* cant be modded, has a locked PCM and isnt as reliable as the SC 3800. have u seen a SSEI vs. GXP race? Definitely not trying to talk u out of it. But u can get 600hp out of a SC Gen II, but when u swap to a N* ur stuck with 275hp, well u can get a little more with, nos, CAI, and maybe headers.. A Trailblazer with a Straight 6 has 300hp.

???? someones been telling you some tall tales. That type of HP out of a 3.8? Link me. It would grenade the rest of the drivetrain or itself. Lets keep it real. A few here have gotten over ? 300, And always on the path of rebuilding/replacing. Neither engine is a candidate for serious racing or power. The world record for a 3800 with an M90 is Tim King with 412HP with way over $4000 in Intense goodies and tuning into the engine alone. And it doesn't go to the store for groceries.

The Northstar engine is replacing my 1.6L Toyota supercharged engine so the extra oomph should be plenty in a sub 1900 pound car...should be 1500 pounds but this Northstar/4T80E is heavy!!! It may not be the biggest/baddest/best motor out there for my car, but it was $800 for a complete engine swap and it'* a V-8. My simple motivation. I have it mounted in the back of the car and I may one day go and mount an Audi trans to the Northstar and run the engine lengthwise for a better mid-engine setup but for now, I'm on the cheap! I've driven a lot of cars and messed with even more engines...but never a Northstar. The 32 valve V8 just sounded like fun I guess after I killed off a cylinder of the SC Toyota motor. I had actually seriously considered an LS4 from an Impala, but the Northstar deal I got came along first. Oh, and it'* all just for fun, I don't do any actual racing for money or anything.

I have my entire build thread up at http://www.grabercars.com/

Thats a Gran Prix GXP, totally different car and different drivetrain altogether. It comes with a 5.3-liter V-8. This is a Mechanical Section for the Bonneville GXP and it'* LD8 Northstar engine. If you want to chat and learn what models and drivetrains Pontiac makes, please do it in General chat. We like to keep our Mechanical Sections Tech oriented and on target please. This is to keep our Forum Search Engine lean and accurate for people who actually have problems. Not to show your prowess in (or lack of) knowing tidbits culled from youtube. TY
