Subwoofer?
Has any one added a single Subwoofer to their GXP? I have a small box and a 10" sub with an amp laying around. I was wondering if anyone had done this.

Yes, buy a sub amp that accepts speaker level inputs and go. I have an Alpine monochannel hooked up to mine. Just had to tap into the rear speaker wires and the Monsoon radio doesnt know the difference. Which is a good thing with all the electronics tied into it.

If it'* not a huge inconvenience could you snap a few pics of how this is done? I am pretty much useless when it comes to electronics type stuff. I just want to see if the amp I have does infact accept these speaker level imputs you are talking about.
Thanks.

Sorry it'* raining here and opening the trunk and getting the cam wet arent my favorite thing to do in the rain. All amps are different in the terminal blocks. Most that accept speaker level inputs have 4 pins arranged so a molex plug fits in. (rectangle shaped, one side square~one side arrow shaped.) it is usually well marked that it is for speaker level input. It is something you dont want to guess about in the slightest. Blowing your monsoon could take out alot of things besides your radio. DIC, OnStar,XM,Phone and other things are tied to the head unit. It'* a great convenience but sux for aftermarket mods.

Thanks for the advice. Doesn't look like my amp has any speaker level imputs. Just RCA in and Out, and the Speaker terminals that would be used for the sub.

If it just has the RCA jacks then it doesnt. You Can go to a stereo shop though and get a line level adapter. Usually in the $20 range. They convert the normal 3-4 volt range of speaker output down to safe line level requirements. Some audio purists will counter this comprises sound quality to a small extent but being it'* going into a sub woofer amp, you will not be able to tell the difference.
Here'* an example of one.
MDS-LLK Line Level Adapter (MDS6A)

I just came accross the line output converter on Crutchfield. I think that will do the trick since the amp was a freebie, this is a nice affordable option. Now I just need to find a suitable front speaker since one of mine is cracking a bit all ready. Thanks for the help!

a loc should only cost 20 bucks. don't buy anything from crutchford they rip people off left and right. i can't stand them.
all you needs is a loc, amp, wires, and a woofer and you're all set. however a 10'' isn't going to add a whole bunch but it'* alot better then nothing.

That depends alot on the genre of music you listen to. My 10 inch is just right for hard rock. It gives the system the bass my ears can actually hear that is deficient in the stock system. I found I dont turn the system up as high once the sub bass was installed and gives me what I cranked the OEM to obtain. It does give out the bump you feel but cant hear but not attentuated to where it interfere'* with the type of music I listen to.
