Need GXP track benchmark!
 

We need someone with a GXP to hit a local dragstrip. We could really use a benchmark for comparison to the other Bonnevilles and other GXP's.

Any GXP owners up to the task?

I have seen 2 run at the tracks, low 15's for both. TM played a part in both. ANY wheel spin off the line = bad run. I talked to one guy after his runs and told him about removing the WSS in the front. I think he posted here that he picked up quite a bit of oomph off the line with them removed.

What is the WSS?

WSS = Wheel Speed Sensor

Are you talking about traction control, stabilitrac, or something having to do with the front diff?

If you take off your front tires you will see a wire/sensor electrical line, its the wiring to the WSS, disconnect it and your ABC/TC is bypassed.

The Northstar doesnt have the low end tq that the 3800 has, I'd be more concerned about wheel on the roll... :?

The PCM gets data about your tires spinning from the front wheel speed sensors. This is how it knows when to engage ABS, or certain Stabilitrak traction control algorithms. When they are not connected, the TS system shuts down and you get an error in the DIC saying service stabilitrak system. Also your ABS and Traction control lights should come on. They will go away once you hook them back up.

When you spin the tires agressively such as on a launch the car will immediately pull timing and enable active braking to get the car under what it thinks is control. This will, of course, adversely affect your 1/4 mile time. By disconnecting them you remove the PCM's ability to do this.

There is still plenty of other ways the PCM will enable torque management but until you start modding the car I don' think you will trip them (certain amount or Torque exceeded in certain gears, etc...)

I ran mine at the local track (KCIR) June 30 with only a few hundred miles on the odo. All times were 15.52 to 15.62 @ 89-90 mph. Short times were high 2.3's with or without TC engaged with very little wheelspin.

KCIR is notorious for being .2 to .3 slower than your "average" track. I moved to the GXP from a moderately modded GTP -- 13.25 @ 106 mph , 2.0x 60 ft times -- TOG's, rockers, PCM, 3.1 pulley, etc..... I've logged well over 100 1/4-mile passes in a FWD sedan, so I feel pretty confident in my launch technique.

I will unplug the WSS next time out and see what I get. I'm betting the torque management in the PCM is ridiculous. I hope INTENSE or one of the PCM programmers will get something out to us soon!! :)

Every succesive version of the Traction Control System has gotten a lot more sophisticated in the way it deals with reduced traction, I imagine the GXP is very proactive.

Man those Bonneville GXPs are beautiful cars :heart: :!:
