I have been shopping for some new tire options for my car. Stock she has V-rated Michy Energy MXV4 235/60/R16'*. I was surfing tirerack.com to see whats available and suprisingly....not a whole lot.

The Michys are $149 USD whereas the Yokohamas listed there are $79 :? anyhow, I was asking around and apparently, I can go 225/50/R16 or even 225/55/R16, basically I WOULD like to have the same tires that stock 2000+ Bonnevilles have so that I can explore 17" rim options.

Ideas, suggestion?

I'm not a big fan of the Yoko'*.....and Mich'* are spendy (imported from Europe), but I AM a big fan of Toyo. Check out the Proxes TPT.....it'* a directional tread design. Major grip, great warranty, and a respectable price.

I know Seth has some NICE tires on his 98 SLE...forget what kind he has tho...makes a cool zipper sound when you dress em with tire wet

the 225/50/16 is way to low profile. there have been a few that put 20'* on the aurora and there overall profile of the wheel and tire were WAY off and they had transmission problems a year latter, the dealer told them it was becuase of there messed up size. a 225/55 would be good maybe, basically changing your FDR to something higher maybe about the same as 4.00 gears?? dunno the exact math, but it will help your off the line pull, not your mileage though

i got some nitto'* last year, right size off discount tire for like 450 after everything. there H rated touring tires, worked pretty good in the snow.

changing the height to much is not a good idea, messes up your shiftpoint etc etc, according to a couple cadillac dealers this will hurt your transmission

I need V-rated tho, I guess I will stick with the 235/60R16'*

I'm pretty pleased with my Bridgestone'* thus far. It'* even raining here so I have tested their capabilities and no problems. I don't think you have Costco in Canada but they were only $90 a tire with mounting, balancing, stems, flat repair etc.

Whoa, old thread Jim.. I suppose you've already bought tires by now. A good place is Consumer Tires, one located in Sauga (I think) and another in Trana. Cheap tires there, I got my set of 4 for $300 installed! Dont ask the brand name... Primera.. lower end Goodyear or Bridgestone brand.
