Just got terrible news
 

I took my GXP to the chevy dealer by the house today and got a call saying they cant work on it and take it to a Caddy dealer, the car just started leaking oil all over the past 2 weeks and needs a new water pump also, i call the caddy dealer and give the guy he info the chevy dealer said and they quoted me at 8 GRAND and also advised me to get prior authorization before they even look at it. My ? is will the warranty company (CNA) even pay for a repair so expensive or just total it ?

The warranty company cant total it. Thats a ins. thing. Ins. company total cars. But the warranty company might tell you it more than the car is worth and they wont pay it. You might be able to get your ins. company to do it by showing them the papers. I have never heard of a ins. company in New York totaling a car because cost of repairs. Best of luck.

I would be very interested in seeing the list of repairs the dealer wants $8K for. I would think they could install a new engine for that amount. Run, do not walk, away from the dealerships and take your car to a local privately owned shop.

Prior authorization from the insurance company prior to starting repairs is a good idea. You can avoid a possibly nasty surprise. As to whether or not they will cover the repair, it depends on the terms of your contract, but let them provide a pre-determination and if it is not in your favor, have them tell you which specific terms of the contract are determining their decision.

Bommarito caddilac said the engine would need to be removed from the car and if the heads need to be removed itll easily be 8 grand because of some rethreading of the block.

Water pump is cheap and somewhat easy to do, just requires rental of a special water pump socket. As for the oil leak, take a close look at the lines on the front of the engine as that is a place common to leak, but also the oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, and mid block gasket can all be a source of leaking.

$8,000 is absolutely absurd for pulling the engine and fixing the thread issues. There are kits out there that you can do it yourself for about $500 (of course you have to be handy with tools though) and Northstar specialty shops that will do it for about $2,000. I remember seeing many quotes around $4,000 from dealerships on the Caddy forums for that work.

Take your car to a local (non-dealer) shop.

Well the verdict is lower crankcase gaskets and water pump i should have her back in a week.

What did it end up costing you? My bet is a lot less than $8K.

I got the car back 2 weeks for the repairs but the grand total was $3500 and now its back in the shop for a air pump which will cost me another $100 deductable. CNA will get my business if i ever purchase another extended warranty ive had zero issues.
