high beam bulb's
ok i have a fog light out picked up a pair of silver stars and while i was at it got the low beams 9006 but they didnt list a Part# for the highs before i go out in the rain does anyone know what they are....

dont like to beat a dead horse but, why dont you put the 9005's in the low beam side and get even more light. here is the site on how to mod the lights
http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm did it to our car over a year ago, love the light i have now and NO one has flashed there lights at us yet and we do a lot of night driving. you do get more light, a 9005 bulb has 70% more lumens than the 9006 (1700 lumens vs 1000 lumens). the one problem i see is when i get in my truck(1999 Ford) , its like i have headlights from the 1950's or 60's . they look dull and dont light up the road near as good as the modified 9005 lights in my SSEi. Must be the 2000's have poor reflecters..... Cause I get high beams flashed at me constantly with my low beams on.... even when dragging the front wind deflector on the ground.

I’ve got 9005 Silverstars in mine, and the light output is much better than stock. The light pattern is still fairly poor. It appears that the support bars for the blockers put shadows in the light output.
I’m interested to see how the Silverstar foglamp bulbs hold up. When my factory foglight bulbs first burned out, I replaced them with some blue-tint bulbs I had been using in aftermarket foglamps on my previous vehicle. I had used these bulbs for about 6 months of daily use, always on with the headlights. 1 week after installing in my GXP, both bulbs had burned out! I know that the aftermarket foglamp housings had vent / drain holes at the bottom of the housing, and I don’t believe the GXP housings do. So I have to wonder if the lack of ventilation causes the bulbs to run hot and burn out. I realize that there is another theory that says you need to completely seal the housing to keep moisture out. But these aftermarket foglights had plenty of ventilation, I used them for years, and bulbs would typically last a year or more. So I may do some drilling on the GXP housings. Of course then no more free warrantee replacements…. |
Turbocoupe the problem with the fog lamps isnt so much with moisture as some dealers try to put it off on. The lower wiring harness is to small a gauge to handle constant amp draw. Thjere is a TSB on it and a replacement harness can be had. Of course as usual you have to have the TSB number and be assertive.

Thanks, I'll have to request that the next time they burn out. On the service papers it just says the bulbs were replaced.
