GXP Tires
 

I'm new and I did a search but nothing quite matched the problems I am having with my GXP. It has 22,000 and I am on my 4th set of tires from Goodyear due to uneven wear and high force on the tires. They go out of balance after about 1000 miles at speeds of 60-80 and the good thing is everytime I have a tech in the car it does it to the fullest. The dealer has did that force test and found out my tires are in the 20's when it should be around 7. Now I am not complaining because I get new tires all the time, if I knew this I would turn of my traction controll and really light up the tires. This is my 3rd Bonneville and I really like this one but my wife likes the 2003, she like the supercharger whine. Anybody having similair problems with the Goodyears or is it just me?

No issues here.....

I don't think its an Issue witht he GXP and the tires more so an Issue with the TIRES IMO the Good Year RSA for personal use suck... if you have to have them replaced again pay for the upgrade and get a set of good street tires

Mine go out of balance too...low miles as well

could it possibly be the way the shops are mounting the weights ? maybe not cleaning the surface properly ?? I haven't had any problems with my RSA's

No problems here either. Actually going on 16k miles I am suprised that the tires are holding up so well considering I've replaced my suspension with Bags and Airstruts. I wonder as well ReallyAGXP if it's the way they are mounting the weights. My Ram 3500 had serious balance/weight issues untill I found somebody competent enough to do 16' truck tires. As for the RSA's, they have treated me good. Dry,wet, or snowy pavement. But of course,..... I always do under the posted speed limits. ;)

Goodyear Eagle RS-A's are, well, junk! They are a "jack of all trades, master of none" tire. They do tend to last long though. I just swapped out my Yoko's on my GTP that will be scrapped with a set of RS-A's from my Monte Carlo with 60k on them and they still have about a 1/4 of the treadlife left on them.

Anyway, I digress, It amazes me that Goodyear can get away with charging what they ask for replacements because "it's an OEM tire!"

The best tire out there in our size (which there is only 4 or 5 good choices out there) is the Kumho ECSTA's.

It sounds to me like something is shifting due to looseness causing excessive wear. Where is the uneven wear on the tire? Inside edge? Outside edge? Center? Feathering? Cupping?

Has anyone here tried the BF Goodrich g-force T/A KDWS 235 50ZR/18 tires for their GXP? I looked at prices for all brands and couldn't believe the prices on the others. And the range of prices......went up to $339 per tire!

I have had no problems with my original RS-A's and if they weren't so darn expensive to replace I would probably get another set. But I saw these BF Goodrich and bought a set of 4 with shipping for under $400 at www.tires-easy.com. Their prices were the best I could find for that tire.

But has anybody heard anything about these on a GXP? Since I didn't empty the bank to get them I am not expecting too much. I read about other cars with these tires and they all seemed fairly happy but they were not our size. I have them now but am waiting till my RS-A's are almost all gone to change them. I have 53,000 on the original tires and that includes autobahn driving at 145 mph. BTW, the GXP will cruise all day at 133 mph with the cruise control on! I really miss that autobahn driving!

I remember a few threads in the 00-05 section about tires being a bitch and a half to balance. People with summer and winter rims reporting vibrations, odds that two sets of wheels are both out of balance IMO? Pretty damn slim...

I have not had any problems with mine. I got the car with 20K miles on it and it looked like the tires had just been replaced.

Holy hell !!! I had my car up to 136 and it was redlined! and your at 133 Cruising! Either I had another gear or putting a GXP at 133 for long period of times is kinda dumb (its probly dumb either way)

About the tires I haven't had any trouble and I beleive they are the stock tires.

You must of had another gear. I have been at 135 with plenty left. I have heard it will run into the mid 150's from another member.

Vince 136 all day shoots right up to the 150 mark not a problem if your holding it to the boards and at redline there must be something wrong. 8)

I hit 145 mph on the autobahn w/o redlining. After about 130, the Opel dealers told me to tap the accelerator a bit and you could "bypass" the speed governor a little. I tried it on an open stretch of the autobahn and it worked. As for being dumb, in Germany those kinds of speeds are not uncommon over there and it isn't illegal. The key is to be safe and responsible. The N* ran completely fine at those speeds. I probably had it up to speed like that 15 times in the 2 years I had the car there. A wonderful experience! The cruise at 133 was just to see if the car would accept it and it did.

As for the original tires......the size is correct but mine came with Goodyear RS-A's from the factory. I was just seeing if anyone had tried the KDWS's from BF Goodrich yet.[/list]

Dont particularly like these kinds of threads and think they should be treated same as kill stories. Nowhere in the US can You get to these speeds legally and I would feel bad if we lost a younger member who is not used to going to these speeds and a thread like this gave him/her the gumption to do it. On a tech standpoint though. I agree with Obis's observation. In a WOT the speed governor kicks in. I have gotten higher than the speed cutout by easing into it. At near 150 the GXP starts drift a little in turns and reaction time and correction is critical. I do not recommend doing it and as stated, these types of threads should be discouraged. The RSA's on the GXP are not the S or Z rated ones and are not engineered for these speeds. I dont agree with the observation that the RSA's are a jack of all trades tire. They are strictly a "street/highway" tire with moderate rain groove. I like them, and have had no trouble with them. As a member of a Custom Car Club who has spent alot of time at the shop, 18" wheels are heavy and low profile tires add to the frustration of getting the combo perfectly balanced. And as with my 94 Dodge Dually which I have had alot of trouble getting someone to properly balance a number of brand tires over 140k miles. Balancing is hardly ever a tire issue, more an equipment/ operator issue. It takes an experienced balancer with patience to do the job right. I would change shops before I pointed to a tire. It has made a world of difference in the way the front end of my truck handles.
