When I was running the road course last weekend, I noticed that the traction control had turned itself off. After I was back in the paddock, things returned to normal. Later in the day I noticed that the trac off light was on but low traction light came on and the trac off light went out. :?

Trac control will dissable itself to prevent overheating the brake fluid or something like that.

Are you sure Shadow, that would be cool i t shut down torque management altogether. 05 GXP how much aggressive driving till you got the light automatically??

About the second lap of a 2.3 mile course. I was pushing it fairly hard, not to the edge of control, but close.

99.9% sure unless they changed something i dont know. I am talking about just the abs traction control portion.

Very interesting 05GXP... so how did the brakes perform under heavy use? how did the rotors hold up? were you outpacing anything major that you know of? Thanks in advance!

Took my GXP to 125mph and the brakes faded considerable imho.

I didn't think that they were too bad considering the 12.5 inch rotors under 18" wheels and back pads that could be an inch or two taller. They faded a little at first, but then they they were consistant. I didnt push them to tha point that the ABS kicked in. I did use 50% of the pads up in 100 miles. I would like to try it again with something other than the stock pads. To me thay are like all the other GM cars that I have owned, tremendously mediocre.

I have seen several posts already regarding the need to swap the pads out promptly - at least on our GXP'*. The most noted issue is all the brake dust as it is the most I have ever seen on any vehicle. I made about a 40 mile round trip the other day that was about 60% open road and 40% in town - so definitely no heavy braking and no stop and go traffic. I had just wiped the entire car, including the wheels, down before I left and when I returned home I again took a towel to the wheels and it was amazing how dirty they were already! I have the Ceramic pads on another vehicle that had moderate dusting and it made a big difference. There was a little adjustment period though as the pads worked well, but seem a little "grabby" at first. Don't really notice it now - not sure if we just got used to it or it lessened once the pads were broke-in.

I am sure that since the pads dust as they do on the GXP that there is quite a performance gain to be had in upgrading the pads as well. I look forward to upgrading as soon as I can find enough feedback and info to make an informed decision on which brand and type to go with.

I have seen where someone posted some info on Ceramic pads, but it was rather limited. Anyone in here know more or have some good suggestions on which pads to use. I have upgraded the braking system on my 30th Ann. TA and actually use a type of Carbon Fiber pad that performs very well in conjunction with my cross-drilled rotors with almost no dusting. But I rather doubt there would be an application available for our GXP'*. Hey, but I'll check...

Just wanted to note that I went to KVR'* website - the brakes and pads I use on my 30th Ann. TA - www.kvrperformance.com - and checked to see if they offered anything for our GXP'*. They only listed rotors, pads, and stainless steel brake lines for Bonnevilles as well as Grand Prix'* up through 2003 (which will be good news to many here on the board!). So I went ahead and emailed them regarding the GXP and will let you know what I hear back.
