So the oil cooler line started yesterday as I was driving to school. Apparently, the line just ruptured and caused a near total oil loss. To get it back home, my dad'* friend cut the line to a really short length just to connect to the two elements (don't know the proper name) just to keep the oil going. Does this system look familiar? If it does, would you guys know the if the part number for that hose will be the same as what is used on NorthStar oil coolers? I imagine, GM took this out of a parts bin and put it on the 9c1s instead of designing one just for the car...

These are the hose numbers given to Sam:
25726975 & 25731449

These are the ones given to Dalder a couple years ago.
25731360 & 25731362

Not sure if the first ones are redesigned or just interchangeable. Also not sure on lengths and the fittings between the two cars. With GM you never know. Being one comes from the N* division I tend to think them not the same. Don't have time this morning to go to GM Parts Direct and compare.

It'* ridiculous really. How much did GM really save using aluminum crimp rings??? The warranty work itself must have ate the savings x 10.

yeah that explains where they are right now and what happened to Pontiac. They wanna go cheap so they can keep their service techs busy, idiots..

Not sure about your cooler lines ESPEE1989, i havent had the chance to look at mine yet, it went straight to the shop. But i was talking to ddalder last night and he sent me some pictures of his cooler lines and what he did to them to avoid the problem to happen again, i'll post the pictures up soon.

as for my car, i wanna get you GXP guys' opinion on the following, I will pay almost 1200 to get my cooler lines replaced, but they will give me life time warranty on them. If it ever leaks again from the cooler lines it will be covered parts and labour by AMP (the dealership) for as long as i own the car, or i can go to edmonton, drive for 4 hours get it fixed for 650 with one year warranty (keep in mind i'll prolly be wasting clost to 300 on gas, food & a day off work)... so what do you people suggest? 1200 with lifetime warranty or 650+trip+one year?

The day off work, Gas, food, and extra inconvenience add up to your 1200 I would bet. If you are choosing between the two, I'd take the one close by with lifetime warranty. Otherwise for your 1 year warranty, there goes another day off work and $300 in gas right?

i shouldnt have mentioned work its paid anyways but just the headache of trying to find someone to cover me drives me crazy...
i usually dont care much for warranty stuff but since the cooler lines are known to go bad on GXP or GM in general i know this will come in handy sometime

Well, I got up early to get the car ready to go to class. We went and searched around different auto shops and hardware shops for a heavy duty hose with nylon lining. It seems the car already had its rubber hose replaced (it was replaced with a cut power steering hose) and we took of the remnant of what was left and put the new hose on. I just got in to school and, I'm gonna check the dipstick after I'm done with classes. I'll keep you updated.

Given the new hoses prolly still have the aluminum crimp and they fail alot in cold weather....... seems like the drive would only repeat itself in a couple years. I'd do as Dalder did if possible and go with a custom hose. They shouldn't have a problem with you providing, whichever you chose.

i guess i'll just do it here and pay the few extra bucks for warranty.
as for what ddalader did, they wont do it. anything other than GM parts they wont install, and even if i buy the GM parts online they wont install it because it was never bought here..

EDIT: i wish i told them to check the engine mounts

Here is a writeup with detail on an alternative way to repair the lines on a 4.3L, not sure if it is applicable to NorthStar
