GXP BUILD DATES

Hi,

My '05 GXP has a build date of 6/04, as listed on the sticker found on the driver's side door. This seems like a very early date for an '05. Also, some components under the hood have August "04 chalk-written dates. Can not understand how the install dates of these items can be later than the car's build date.
Anybody out there have a guess, of have early build dates also?

Thanks.

Did you buy the car new? This seems odd to me as well. If the car was in a collision and they took the door off another GXP, you may have one from an '04. Did you compare VIN numbers from the sticker to the windshield plate?

Hi,

I bought it as a new car in Sept. 06, with 98 miles on it. The dealership changed ownership a couple of times and it was fogotten in the back of the lot, at least that is what I was told.
You made a good point with the door, so I just went out to compare the number under the windshield to that on the door, and they match.
The VIN is 1G2HZ54Y54Y45U104744.

Thanks.

Sounds like it was definitely a good find though. I think you've got a few extra characters in the VIN number. Should only be 17.

You're right. Number should be 1G2HZ54Y45U104744. Sorry about that.

Since these were slow selling cars, I would think that maybe Pontiac built a lot of 2004's and since they were sitting at the factory to be distributed to the dealers (that already had excess inventory) they just changed the year to 2005. Just a thought.

I don't know how likely this is. Changing the VIN information spread widely throughout the vehicle would not be practical. Some panels are engraved while others simply wouldn't be accessible without dismantling the car. In addition, the '05 MY does have some differences. The rear antennas are not the same, nor is the OnStar module.

I'm not saying that GM made changes to built cars, but maybe released the 05 models earlier in hopes to have them off the lots quicker.

GXP build numbers

This was covered before but Pontiac built approx. 2500 Bonneville GXP's for the 2004 model year and 5000 for 2005.

It is unusual; my '05 GXP has all the '05 equipment, but the 6/04 build date. Does any other '05 owner have an early build date listed on your car?
