Default Extended Warranty

We have 23,000 miles on the 05 GXP now, and we are considering getting an extended warranty soon. We typically keep our cars for 10 years or so, and i thought getting a warranty may be a good thing. We would be going with the GM major guard with $0 deductible. We were offered a 4-7 year for 1600-2100 dollars. I usually do all my own maintanence, but i have been too busy to do other repairs besides the oil change etc... This car only gets driven 8,000 miles a year or so.

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance.

Cool Warranty-YES

I would go ahead and purchase the warranty. I purchased one when we bought our GXP. I have only paid $100.00 out-of-pocket for the repairs made to our Bonneville. We have had the fog light replace 6 times, foglight harness replaced, fuel pump replaced, instrument cluster replaced and the intermediate steering shaft replaced twice. I have added up all the bills and we would have had to shell out over $1700.00 alone in parts if it weren't for the extended warranty. I don't think you can go wrong with the warranty. This car has alot of electrical components that could fail and are costly to replace.

I picked up the 7 year extended warranty when I bought the car new Jan 06. Have not had to use it yet, but glad its in place. My mileage has brought the original warranty to an end, and with the expense of a new N* engine or a 4T80E transmision coupled to my lead foot and nitrous injection...... I'm glad I have the extra protection.

I also bought a warranty when I bought mine, though this was a 4 year 48,000 mile warranty. Bought the car at 45,800 miles, and since then I've put on about 6000 miles and had to replace one of the coil pack assemblies (see engine misfire thread), steering shaft, and guage cluster because the temp guage just...fell. The repair bill for that was a nice $1200, and was all covered by warranty. Now, I need to replace the tie rods. I wonder how much those will cost me.

Long story short, a warranty for this car is worth the peace of mind.

Different States have different laws regarding car warranties. Though I live primarily in PA, but the car is registered in NY where the manufacturer has to prove a modification caused the warranty problem before they can void it. That said, I still wouldn't bring the car into Mr GoodWrench with the nitrous package intact. It was installed keeping in mind I might want it back out without a trace. The main problem with a properly installed nitrous system is increased wear. It is highly unlikely an event would happen that directly tied an engine failure exclusively to it'* use.

Well, we didnt get the warranty. We have until Jan 09 until the factory one runs out. The car was at the dealer most of the week getting stuff done. I was told that the clicking noise when the car slowed down that was audible at exactly 14 and 13 mph was due to the front brakes. Well i replaced the pads this am, and yep, the car still clicks when you slow down. The steering wheel also feels loose. I told them i thought the intermediate shaft needed to be replaced again, and they said its fine. I think i will be looking to take it to another dealer in the next week or two, once i get my Saab back, unless pontiac will give me a loaner car (which is never the case.)
