Caliper Slider pin placement??
I figured Id start a new thread for this topic. I need to know which slider pin goes ontop and which goes on the bottom. 1 has a rubber bushing and 1 doesn't. I took the pins out to clean the old ones.. but I mirriord each side when I put them back together... and I forgot which bracket is the 1 I did first.
the reason I ask this and not gm... is because gm in there wonderful bright minds made 2 totally different slider pins for each bracket, and in there diagram at the parts dept does not show which goes where. It actually shows that they are the same pin... so hopefully someone on here will let me know. This is for the front. |
both should have a rubber bushing to keep water out and causing rust, check the caliper to see if the boot got stuck on there

and when you do pads you put new stuff in anyways, I know they always come with 4 boots (2 for each side on the front), and the other pad slides
|
both do not have bushings on them. On the gxp's and there special front brakes, 1 pin has a bushing, and 1 pin does not. and 1 is a lil bit longer than the other.
I'm not talking about the gromets on the end... I am talking about the bushings at the end of the slider pin.. which is inside the caliper bracket.. I would assume this is only a gxp thing |
yah I'm not a gxp expert, could you take some pictures?
are you talking about the pins that go in between the caliper braket and the pads? |

im not trying to be a jerk here.. but this is a gxp place. Which is why I posted on here in the first place. I figured someone else who had a gxp who has done the front brakes would know. I could post pictures, but you still would not know because you do not have the car. Thanks for trying to help, I do appreciate it, but someone with knowledge of the gxp could help out alot more.
hopefully there will be someone with a GXP that could help you but in all likelyhood it will be someone that has done brakes before beacuse its not that hard to mess up |

We are still talking about a Bonneville GXP, which is built on the same platform that mine is, and brake components are fairly similar, danthurs could tell you I'm sure and he has the W body Bonneville, there are many more of us on here that don't have GXPs beacuse they were only made in 04 and 05

I understand the frustration, I answered you once in your other thread/same topic. I know the two pins and bolts. The one pin has 1 groove, the other two. And one bolt has a wider collar. But having only done the front brakes once. I dont remember the order. I cant believe the Parts computer doesnt have the xploded view differientaiting them. I have a GM Parts Tech on Staff and sent him a PM to try and help. Another way may nbe to take it to NAPA and ask them. THey may have the pins listed as upper/lower? Or have a complete caliper to view. I will let you know what TL comes up with when he logs in. Most members here dont realize the BIG differences in brake and suspension parts.
