Default Missing GXP with ON-STAR

I guess this would be the approiate forum to put this in seeing how you guys have the only Bonnie'* with this. My question was that with the on-star can the car still be tracked if it was stolen if the on-star was not activated? The reason im asking this is because a friend of mines mother had her GXP stolen and it hasn't turned up yet and she didnt activate the on-star.I've heard that sense she didnt do that now she is FU*KED until the police find it. But another thing was that if test drove a car from a deal with on-star on it and say you unplug the battery can it still be tracked.

All opinions would help!

If it'* not activated they won't track it more than likely. If it was activated at one time it might be another story. If the battery is unplugged it won't make a difference for the Onstar. Nothing resets. I am curious though, isn't it automatically activated when you buy the car? Seems like it would be since you get 1 year free.

I really dont know she probably do have it activated but it just a question i had seeing how it hasnt turned up yet. Could the theft had pulled the on-star equipment out?

You can easily pull the onstar box out. Well, maybe not that easily in Bonnies (not sure, haven't looked into the bonnie system), but in the GTP'* its really simple. My dad pulled his out after his 1 free year ran out in his GTP and it literally took 2 minutes. With no box, they can't track the car or do anything to it. So, if its a semi-intelligent theif at all, the box would've been gone a while ago.

I have a few questions--Why did your dad pull his out? It might have been a smart theft as well. Is the box located like under the steering wheel like an aftermarket alarm; if it is thats stupid lol. I wondering what they are doing to her car. If a chop shop has it i wonder how much would they get lol!!

My dad pulled his out because:

1) It gets in the way of pulling the carpet out of the trunk, and frankly just takes up trunk space.
2) It adds weight...every lb. adds up. You don't become the fastest stock cammed L67 by running a full weight car.
3) It wasn't serving any purpose, and they can still track your car even if you aren't subscribed anymore.
4) Why not?

So thats the answer to my question then above, if you dont scribe to there service the car can still be tracked anyway it goes unless the on-star brain is removed right? Where is that located on the GXP Bonnie if you know?

I have no clue, I couldn't even tell you where it is in my moms SSEi. I haven't tried to find it yet. I might get around to it eventually, but she actually uses hers, so I haven't worried about it.
