i was driving the bonneville yesterday and i noticed some sort of white noise in the back round when ever i listen to the satellite radio. my dad says its some sort of interference coming from the engine, and that its not that bad. but his hearing isnt the greatest so i notice it a lot more then he does. what could be causing this, and is there anything i can do to get ride of it?

we need to know your audio set up and how its wired up before we can diagnose your problem.

satellite receiver antenna is mounted on the roof above the rear glass. wire is routed down through the weather stripping on the rear glass into the car. it runs down the side of the car. either the drivers side or the passenger, i cant remember which right now. the satilite tuner is mounted right under the radio. its a alpine CDA-9883 for the head unit. there are Boston acustic speakers in the doors, and JBL speaker on the decklid. in the trunk is 10 inch JBL sub hooked up to an alpine amp. all the wires for the for the amp run along the drivers side of the car.
im thinking the interference is something under the hood. i had this exact same set up on my old truck and i didnt have any thing like this happen when listening to the satellite radio. i heard some where that the spark plug wires could do this if they are not properly shielded. could that be the case here?

Audio wise, how is the XM audio fed to your HU? RCA? FM?

it runs into the aux inputs on the back of the head unit. so i guess that would be RCA

make sure that none of your wires from your sat. rad. are crossing any wires from your amp and sub set up. Especially the power wire, this can often cause interference.

cheap rca'* from your SAT to your Alpine are likely your cause. poor ground can also cause funky issues.

if your SAT tuner is unit controlled by the Alpine its obviously an Alpine Tuner, thus its signal would be through an Ai-NET cable so it wouldnt be RCA'*. Also This noise you speak of can be caused by a bad tuner, and I have seen Alpine SAT tuners make this noise.

its definitely an rca hook up. the head unit is an alpine, but the SAT reciver is SIRUIS and the hook ups are all what SIRUIS gives you when you order the general car kit. the head unit does not control the tuner, when im listening to the sat radio, the only thing the head unit adjust is the volume. all other functions i access on the sat receiver. ill pick up some good quality rca wires tomorrow, and if i have time after all the vehicles get their basic maintenance, ill pull the radio out and swap out the wires, and make sure there are no wires crossing that could cause interference

so i pulled the radio, tore into the dash and all that fun stuff the other weekend. made sure everything was all buttoned up and my wires werent crossing or anything. put it back together and i am still getting some random almost buzzing noise coming from the speakers. its not quite as noticable now, so im happy. its my dads DD and since his hearing is bad enough he doesnt hear it, im not gona bother trying to find out what is causing it.
but on a side note i will need to chase down a few squeaks and rattles that the sub is causing. but that should be easy, and only take me a couple minutes this weekend.
