Carputer
I'm thinking about putting a custom built carputer into my 1998 SSEi this winter. I can get a P3 ~800mhz for free, so I will use that, but most everything else will be bought. Any suggestions, comments? Anyone know the way to setup OBD II into the computer? If I can use FM modulator for sound... best mounting places for screens... etc. Also, I will probably putting in my CB radio into my Bonnie, so maybe custom dash is the way to go, even though I've never attempted anything like it? Please send me any kind of comments, suggestions, tips etc. so I can compile some good information to tackle this. Thanks a ton.

You are going to need a touch screen...get rid of your head unit, and connect the computers sound card outputs up to a 4 channel amplifier, then connect your speakers to the amplifier
Get an fm tuner card for the comp, and hook your factory antenna up to it
if you live in an area where its cold a lot of the time, don't use a hard drive...the thing will blow cuz the fluid in the bearings will freeze

On the fabrication end of things. Randman listed the SEM paints and things that match our cars.
I'm using them and they are great. Don't have them at work though.

i'm not sure if the bose amp runs all 4 speakers then yeah it'll work, and for a sound card, if you have a lot of mp3s and stuff, i would suggest a really good sound card, a creative labs brand probably
i suggest you head on over to http://mp3car.com/

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and an MSI K8N Neo Plat. I'd let go for next to nothing if you're interested (for sale on anandtech at the moment). I also have a SB Audigy you may be able to use to hook up to an amp...but you'll have to figure out a way to adapt a 1/8 inch mini socket into an amp.
Definately overkill for a carputer then.

Well there is a guy on Anandtech intersted in the CPU/mobo combo...I don't want to sell it behind his back if he'* serious to be fair. $10 shipped gets you the sound card. I'll include two slot 1 400MHz Pentium 2'* that I've been trying to get rid of for free -).
