I have been looking for monsoon speakers replacements and stumbled across the newest line of Infinity speakers, all are 2 ohm. Last years were 4 ohm, these are the entry level versions meaning affordable.

I have polk audio in my Aurora and I absolutely love them. Between Infinity Reference and Polk I cant' decide who has the best richness or purity of music.

They are not the hardest hitting they don't produce the absolute highest of decibles. Though my amped grand am put out 117db with Infinity'*, that was clean sound with no distortion.

If you are looking for quality sound go with Infinity, especially with stock HU'*.

If my memory serves me, it'* the Bose system that uses 2 ohm speakers. It'* my understanding that the Monsoon system is NOT 2 ohm (but I don't remember if they are four or eight ohm). Someone will likely chime in to correct me if I'm wrong.

I went to replace my speakers a couple of days ago, Polk audio in the front door and Infinity Reference in the back deck.

Those of you with monsoons, ever wonder why your bass doesn't seem as loud after a rear speaker swap?

Some of you have even swapped in your OEM'* to get it back. The MONSOON "IS" 2 ohm a system. If you drop a 4 ohm speaker in there your'e cutting you current in half that the amp is pushing, hence half bass.

If you replace the door speakers with 4 ohms and leave the OEMS in the back, you have to turn up your HU to get the same amount of volume in the car. The result with the OEM rear deck speakers is actually an increase in the amount of bass at lower volumes because the amp is driving the back speakers as normal, however the quality of the OEM speakers is not up to the task and soon they will bottom out..

So after I very dissapointing result of my speaker swap, I called Crutchfield to hash this system out. While the websites "outfit my car" is out of sync with the Monsoon requirements, the tech guy has access to the correct answers.

Great news, some of you remember that this started out as Polk audio now supplying 2 ohm speakers, now I can't find them. However Infinity DOES as of this year. The 22 series are all 2 ohm.

You may want to double check your information. Monsoon systems have typically used speakers of different impedances within the same system. IIRC, the small 2" speakers in the front doors may be 2 ohms, but the midrange speakers in the rear doors (and I suspect the front as well) are 4 ohms. I'll have to look at the rear speakers. Monsoon systems are quite different than other sound systems and there are a few unexpected surprises (this being one of them).

Although there are only four outputs from the HU (LF, RF, LR and RR), the speakers are all individually wired to the amp. This differs from the non-Monsoon Bonneville stereo in which the small 2" speaker is wired directly in parallel to the midrange. The amp is responsible for doing some of the sound processing and channelling certain frequency ranges to specific speakers. This is why you'll never get a lot of base from the door speakers, regardless of what type of speaker you install (using the OEM Monsoon amp).

I ohm checked the front door speakers. 2 ohm. Ohm checked the polk replacements. 4 ohms.

Ohm checked the rear originals 2 ohms. Ohm checked the infinity 9613i'*, 4 ohms, ohm checked the 9622'* advertised 2 ohm Infinities, 2.65 ohms.

Infinity 6022 6.5 inch 2 ohm speakers on the way for the front door. 5022 5 1/4 2 ohm infinity'* on the way for the rear door.

With the infinity 9622 2 ohm speakers, bass is restored and improved.

The sound overall is 50-75% improvement in the car so far, I can't wait for the others to arrive.

I am sorry if I offend anyone but this is a silly poll. We all have the same answer so far. why, because we are Bonneville drivers and know that quality is more important than loudness. We are a more refined crowd than your average automobile consumer so I am not surprised when we all have the same answers to the same questions. Lets face it, young or old it takes a classy kind of person to own and maintain a Bonneville.

I am actually suprised at the answer. I figured with the some of the younger ages buying bonnevilles. But I guess we don't have any civic drivers here. and thank god I've never seen a topic on the best fart can.

I had a look at my rear speakers and they are in fact 2 ohms. As you can see by the picture below however, my rear door speaker is clearly marked as 4 ohms. I'm not sure how to explain some of your findings. I know my car speakers have never been changed out.

Very interesting, I haven't had the rear door speakers off yet, but when I do I'm definately going to ohm check them. Thanks for the pic. All of my removed monsoon speakers said monsoon on the back and I couldn't find an ohm rating stamped.

I'd be interested in knowing the part number of your Monsoon amp. I'm curious to know if it changed between 2002 and 2004. I had to peel off a label on my rear speakers to find the ohm value. GM applied a bar code label with the part number which obscured my view.

If you can, please post the part numbers of the speakers. I would like to do some comparison with mine.
