Tweeter placement
 

For those of you with added aftermarket tweeters, where do you have them mounted? (Pics would be great too.) I know door posts are common locations, but I'd hate to drill through anything stock if I don't have to... but the added treble response with a tweeter aimed right at your ear is unmatchable! :wink:

i agree. i listen to rock and roll as well as rap. so for me the highs and mids are just as important as the bass. i have jl audio coaxils with a tweeter in the stock location for the speaker. then i put a seperate tweeter in the tweeter spot in the door panel. i assume you do not have a separate tweeter option or you would not be worried about cutting. this set up gives me 4 t5weeters up front where i should only have 2 and it sound amazing.

Find a 1997-2003 Grand Prix in the salvage yard and get the sail panels (some had tweeters in them). If using aftermarket tweeters get the panels without tweeters (mostly found in SE's and entry-level GT's). Then get a 1-1/8" or 1-3/8" hole saw and drill a hole in each one. Drop the tweeter mounting cup in place and secure it.

Just did this in my brothers 1998 GP SE and with the Infinity components it sounds SOO DAMN GOOD.

I also put some of the GP sail panels in my 1994 (as can be seen on the audio page of cardomain page for my 1994), but never took the time to properly mount them. They do add alot to the sound quality.

I personally think having many tweeters ruins the imaging. There's more to sound then just frequency response.

Try to keep just 2 sets of tweeters as equadistance as possible from your head.

i agree with him. Also something ur forgeting is that in order to have good imaging, you dont want the tweeters to be any further than half the wavelength of the crossover freaquency between the woofer and tweeter

Actually I do have the stock tweeters in my door panel... but they just don't carry up to the ear too well. I was thinking of either adding two more, or switching out the stock tweeters with a model that has the kind of mount you can "aim" (rotate a certain amount) for better response.

if that is the case all you have to do is remove the old tweeter. most just snap in so just pull them out. when you see them you will know why they sound like crap. next you will have to figure out the hardware you are going to use that comes with the tweeters you buy. most come with mutiple ways that they can be mounted. you are probly going to want the surface mount parts. you can dremel out enough of the plastic that grabs the stock tweeter. the stock tweeter is alot bigger then the ones you will be using so even with the surface mount hardware it will be aout the same size. so you just dremel out enough to hold the tweeter and the super glue the tweeter to the stock holder. make sur eyoyu gkue the mounting kit not the speaker so you do not mess up the tweeter. this way you still can swivel the tweeter to its best location.
