Default Help! - getting speaker wire into the doors.

I am trying to run two speaker wires into my doors. One will go to the amp from the factory wiring and one will return to the speaker. Is there a trick to this or am I going about this in the wrong way?

Heres what I've got

Aftermarket 6.5s in front
Aftermarket 6x9s in back
Kicker 2x700.5 5 channel amplifier in trunk
100ft of 18ga wire

ok I need one of the wiring gurus to chime in on this. while searching around underneath the dash I found a wiring harness under the kick panel right by the door. THis harness has many wires in it but alone on one side are a brown and grey wire grouped together. These are the same color wires that are in the door panel for the drivers side speaker. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows the pinout for this harness and if these are for sure the speaker wires? If they are I wont have to worry about running the wires into the door. I could just splice in right there.

Thank you for the help

Edit: Here is what I'm talking about:

Here are the driver'* speaker terminals:

These are the wires in question:

the answer is yes. I stuck two paper clips in the harness by each wire and then connected a crappy speaker to them. I hear music - so there ya go.

Depends how you are wiring it all up. I assume you are using one amplifier channel per speaker. You could just run the front left and right pairs to the deck and tap into them there. To test the wire just put a multimeter across them and measure for RESISTANCE ( OHMS ) if it reads around 4 ohms then thats them. OR test each wire to power and ground and if they read 0 volts, and do not go to ground then you can pop them with a AA battery. If you want you can run new wires into the doors through the boots. Kind of a pain, but its not really THAT big of a deal. Your better off not using any of the factory wiring. Or you can do it the.....

EASY WAY! IF YOU DO IT THIS WAY YOU DO NOT NEED TO RUN WIRES!

In behind your deck, disconnect all the speaker wires from your deck, jump them together ( Left front positive to left rear positive etc.) This puts the rear speakers in parallel to the fronts. Now, Disconnect the 6x9s. You now have the front speaker wires in the trunk. Run those wires to your front channels, and then run new wires from your rear chanels to the 6x9s directly.

In theory, that would work correctly, but there is a bit of resistance change over the length of the wire and through all of the plugs.

Best way to do it is as mentioned above- Once you've metered and verified all of your 12v constant, ground, switched ignition, dimmer, etc... Take a AA battery and start touching the wires. You will hear a crackling, popping sound coming through the speaker. Obviously, you will not get the correct polarity, but it is a way to test for speaker leads.

well I ended up splicing into the wiring harnesses under the dash on each side. Worked well. There is just enough room to get a couple of crimp tools in there. I got the entire thing wired up and then I got the big let-down. I turned the car on the first time and got a horrible whining out of all the speakers. I turn the car off and go check my connections. Everything is wired correctly so I try again. No sound at first, then the sub plays, then the rears play, then the fronts play. I go back to look at my fine work and begin adjusting the gains and what do I see.

SMOKE!! -- I am so pissed right now. I am sending this thing back first thing in the morning.

Well I've been trying since wednesday to get a RA# from www.hifisoundconnection.com but they haven't even responded except to ask for info I already sent them and they don't answer their phones. I'm getting pretty nervous and am probably going to file a compliant with PayPal about them on Tuesday. I was wonedring if anybody else has had good or bad experiences with them? Does anybody have thoughts or reccomendations on the dispute resolution process through PayPal?

Thanks

I did not see this thread until now, but if you want this to work correctly you will need to do some more research. Don't tie into wiring unless you're absolutely sure what you're connecting to. Some of the suggestions and recommendations posted so far (with no offence intended) are generally not a good idea and are certainly not "best practice" procedures.

First of all, I don't recommend attaching batteries to the wiring harness to check for static or clicking. There are a number of signals to or from various body control modules. Many of these aren't simply ground or +12VDC levels. You may find yourself setting DTC'* or run into other problems. This simply isn't a good plan.

Next, there is virtually no room to be splicing wires behind the deck in the 2K+ Bonneville. Connecting the speakers in parallel as suggested will change the impedance of the circuit. This may affect how the new equipment either operates or performs.

In order to run wires through the rubber boot in the door jamb, you will need to pull the boot out, remove the tape, add the wires, tape it up and replace it. The boot is taped securely to the wiring harness and you can't just "sneak them through".

If you need to know which wires in a given connector are for audio, please post the specific connector(*) and I'll do my best to help out. From the picture you originally posted, there is absolutely no way to advise you because it was terribly out of focus.

On a final note, make sure the equipment you're connecting can be used in the configuration you're wiring. This may have been part of your problem.
