Sunroof fix.

Okay so does anyone have some demo pics of what all would be involved in removing the headliner to replace the sunroof unit on a 2000+ ssei? I am gonna try and save some $ for mods and I figure that it would be a good idea to try and do this myself over spring break in two weeks.

Danthurs 02-17-2011 10:14 PM

Well, guess what. I just happen to have a 2000 SSEi sitting in my shop and it's being stripped down. Saturday we will be removing the sunroof. I guess, if we remember, perhaps we can take a bunch of extra pictures and do up some kind of write up.

silversurfer 02-17-2011 10:26 PM

If it's sawgunner's old car, then I sure hope you get the sunroof out...that's mine....lol..well minus the glass.

Danthurs 02-17-2011 10:52 PM

Yep, that's the one. Not to much left of it now.

sawgunner 02-17-2011 11:13 PM

i'll make sure to get ya a write up on it. i've done it a few times now LOL

Danthurs 02-17-2011 11:16 PM

Cool, we'll take the pictures, take what you need and I'll get them on the server.

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:08 PM

Sounds good guys.Thanks for everything!

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:09 PM

I wished I was closer to everyone..lol..then i would just show up...lol, but right now its a 12hr trip....lol

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:11 PM

ya i looked at just bringing the assy out to ya and helping ya put it in but damn your almost out to North Platte, NE geez i thought you were closer LOL

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:12 PM

Oh quick question...on the gauge cluster can you just replace the plastic on it or do you have to replace the entire cluster, mine is kinda clouding up really bad and there are several scratches on it that are really showing now....don't ask how they got there because I don't know....

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:13 PM

you can just replace the plastic on it. need it i got it LOL

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:14 PM

Well, I am in Wayne Nebraska right now at college...lol a little closer I think...but not really...I am in the NE part of the state..about 45mins from Sioux City...til may and then its back to cozad til august....lol

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:14 PM

I might take you up on it...lol how much?

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:15 PM

i was just out in Sioux city a month or so ago with the bonnie LOL ya may have seen it running around

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:18 PM

probably not...I hadn't been to sioux city since first of December and then I finally went back to Sioux city last weekend....lol...next time your in Sioux City you should let me know...meet up somewhere and talk cars...lol

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:19 PM

i was out there the first and second week of January. i may feel up to taking that ride again

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:20 PM

I am actually really tempted to start a bonneville club here in Wayne..there are a few ssei's but a lot of SLE's and se's...but there are a lot of bonnies regardless.....kinda give me something fun to do with cars since I am leaving the MOPAR scene for awhile...lol

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:20 PM

well let me know..as long as its before the first week of may I should still be close to Sioux City...lol

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:21 PM

need help with advertising i got a shit load of the forum business cards sitting here

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:21 PM

first week of may i'll be heading to Dans for the meet then rolling out to NH for a week

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:22 PM

I may take you up on those too...It would make it easier for sure..lol

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:23 PM

they are nostalgia to me right now considering my car is the one on the front of them

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:24 PM

Yea I move back to cozad on the 6th or 7th....and then it is work work work...hopefully the other car will be sold by then so I can do some stuff to the Bonneville.....Next fall I may be taking the car to Ruthven IA for a weekend....not sure though....I may end up living in Sioux City after I graduate...depends on the job situation...

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:25 PM

Yea....I don't blame you for feeling a little nostalgic....I bet you miss it. I know I would miss my car if anything happened to it....I never did hear..what happened that you are parting it out?

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:26 PM

it's not a bad area but man they don't know how to plow the roads at all. it was about a week since they got hammered and the roads were still crap and most unplowed

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:26 PM

fuel door rot from hell

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:29 PM

this should explain it
https://www.gmforum.com/your-ride-gm-pictures-videos-89/last-photos-before-she-starts-get-parted-297692/

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:35 PM

Yea they don't do a good job here in Wayne either.....the car doesn't move very much when we have that much snow...I really need a pickup but I don't really go places enough to merit buying one....

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:35 PM

what should one do to prevent that problem on these cars?

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:35 PM

i wanted a truck instead of the impala but wasn't happy with what was around and available

sawgunner 02-18-2011 12:37 PM

cant really prevent it. but as soon as you start seeing little paint bubbles under your fuel door get to a body shop and fork out $400-$600 to get that area replaced and get the foam tape out of there

silversurfer 02-18-2011 12:37 PM

will have to keep a close eye on that now that I know about it....
