Default Boomming System Specialist Wanted!

I looking to add some subs to my system. An I have a few questions
I need to ask. Thanks in advance for any info you can offer.

1. Looking at Sony Explode 12' subs. How good or bad are they?
If not that good, what could I use? I like the red color of the Sony.

2. In building the box, is there anything else I can use besides wood
that would be lighter?

3. And should I add a second battery for the subs or get a better
battery like the Red or Yellow top to replace my current battery?

I have already have an idea on how I want it to look.

answers!
1. Sony can't makes subs, period. Don't even bother.

2 Particle/mdf is the best thing, and anything else won't be nearly as good.

3. Unless you're going up to 2000w a new battery won't get you anything. The battery isn't even the main electrical system power thing after a few minutes anyways. DO NOT buy a yellow top, they are meant for deep cycles, as in boats, where they are not constantly charged up. It is a waste of money over a red one, and will net you nothing.

That being said, what kinda budget we talking about?

Just for speakers, amp, crossover, wiring, and box. I was looking
at around $800 - $1500.

That is about how much I am going to be spending on my system... I am going to be getting a JL12w6 and a JL 500/1 amp. How many 12'* do you want, I have heard the 12w3s and they have some good tight bass.

I might know I few people in the stereo business in Chicagoland Adbear. Might be able to hook you up. To answer your questions, I'm not a fan of Sony either. Build your box out of 3/4in MDF. Use 1in if you get some 1000+watts subs with some monster magnets. A battery isn't really need unless you go amp crazy. but a RED top to replace the cars battery might not be a bad idea down the road.

You have a good budget there, is that all for bass and amps and stuff, or does that include front speakers too?

If possible! But less I can spend the better! I want 2 12'*, And if I can, I'll
do the 6X9'* and the 4 front speakers. If not I'll upgrade later.

Personally, i'd amplify the speakers before you do subs. A nice 4 way amp, and a great set of components and 6x9'* make plenty of bass, and will sing. Ask zzzzzeke.
