Ok so I have 2 MA audio 12'* on a SSL 800 watt amp and when im driving and I crank the volume up the subs go out and the amp goes into protection mode so I have to turn the system off and then back on and then it will just go off again when you turn the bass up. Any idea what is going on?

what is the final load of the subs? what is the amp stable at? sounds like low impedance.

r they single voicecoil or dual voicecoil? dual 2 ohm, 4 ohm? single 4 ohm?
If ur amp is a 2 channel, most 2 channel amps r only 2 ohm stable per channel in stereo mode or 4 ohm stable in bridged mode. r u running em bridged or in stereo mode?

sounds like ur subs r wired to 2 ohms and ur amp is only 4 ohm stable in bridged mode. Use that link i gave u for proper wiring.

unfortunatly, ur not gonna beable to run them properly in bridged mode, because ur gonna have to run them at 2 or 8 ohms, stereo mode is ur best bet, or trade ur subs for some single voicecoil 8 ohm subs or dual 4 ohm subs. or get a monoblock amp. there really isnt a good reason to use a 2 channel amp

and i forgot to mention that this only started happening recently and that it didnt used to turn itself off

still could be an impedance issue, double check ur ground connection also... did u remove ALL paint from the ground area?

bad ground? did you change any cables?

I think it'* a combination of low impedance and clipping. Here'* why.

Your subs are rated at 600rms each, your amp can only do 400rms AT BEST but only at 4ohms. You can't get a 4 ohm load out of a pair of 4 ohm subs UNLESS THE SUBS ARE DUAL VOICE COIL. So I think your subs are wired to 2 ohms and your amp is bridged (using both channels as one). I also think that you weren't happy with the output of the setup at first and have the gain cranked way up to make up for it. 2 ohms is too low of an impedance for you amp when bridged and 400rms is just a third of the power those subs want/need so my guess is that the gain isn't set correctly, causing it to clip. Both of these things will make your amp get hot......so next time this happens, touch the amp and tell me how it feels.

In order to give you any advice or be sure of my answer I would need to know:

How many voice coils your subs have and what impedance they are
How you have the subs wired
How the amp is wired

Model numbers of the subs and amp would help too
