I will be getting some new 350W Pioneer TS-A6980R 6x9'* within a week. Can't wait to install these. Hopefully within a month I'll be getting my Pioneer DEH3500 HU. I still don't know if I'm going to get subs or not. There'* a place that can get me a decent deal on a pair of Eclipses (12'* I think they are) but I'm still not sure. If anyone has suggestions let me know.

Individual components by themselves, do not matter as much as the entire system design and mesh. If you just half-*** it with parts you've picked up over the months you'll get nothing. Proper system planning is key, What kind of music do you listen to, do you like fast harder beats, or booming. Do you want sound quality over "hey look at me I got bass".

I like everything except country basically, from Foo Fighters to Outkast to Techno to Coldplay...so a lot of beats, bass...deep resonating bass. But quality is what I want yes, but not too much emphasis on highs. I drove my friends Blazer with a sweet system, and a ton of bass, but there were some super high tweeters in my ear that were insanely painful on certain songs

Basically if the HU and these Pioneers are a good step up in sound quality and bass, etc (which they will be) from stock, then I may wait until my next car to get a complete system. It depends.

i would sugguest amping the 6by9s also if u get subs, i would enclose the 6by9s, because all of the preasure from the subs will make the 6by9s distort

Better front speakers are more important the rear speakers for sound. The front speakers create what'* known as a soundstage. This is how the front speakers mesh, and voices should be in the middle, guitars and such fanning outward. Just like a concert hall. The rear speakers are there more for a rear rill, so the sound envellops you, but the vocals and such are still on the front soundstage. Your ears probably hurt in that car because either something wasn't set up right, his ears are shot therefore he pumps the treble. Any decent component set will make you sing yourself.

I personally plan on doing my front speakers next, and probably sealing off the rear. If you want some nice clean bass, get 4 speakers and a 4x50w or 4x75w amp, and they'll put out soooo much more bass.

As for a sub recomendation, you listen to everything, so do I. Any good matching components in the trunk will be loud, so don't worry about that. Size does not matter!!!! I know dual 10" woofers in sealed boxes, that walk all over 3 ported 12" woofers.

I'd recommend probably 2 10" woofers, or one nicer 12" and an amp to power them. remember to include amplifiers in your budget as well. A sealed box is the best sounding, with a ported box being boomier, and not as tight. a Bandpass box is the hardest to tune, and is louder then a ported box.

If your getting components for the front, which would probably be your best bet, i suggest you dont mount the tweeters in the stock location (provided you drive a Bonneville with the 5 1/4" speakers and not the 4x6'*). You will get MUCH better stereo imaging and the vocals and highs will be much more evident if you mount them somewhere that they will be almost equal distance from your ears. A good place is flush mounting in your dash, most components come with the parts necessary for this. That way, the highs will bounce right off the windshield and into your ears. Another good place is on the A-pillars. Another, more stock approach would be to take the factory tweeter mounts from a GTP or a GA or even a Sunfire, and mount your tweeters in that. They fit nicely into that mini window we got, and look nice and stock.

Anyway, make sure you listen to something before you buy it, so you know what you are getting. Watch out for brands that aren't well known, because as a general rule, they probably won't be as good quality as other manufacturers such as JBL, or Infinity, or Pioneer (all of which have a better reputation then brands such as Pyramid...)

if you're planning on adding amps, i'd seriously look into a deck with 3 preouts of at least 4 volts. It makes a world of difference when running external amps.

If he mounted the tweeters in the vent for the windshield he would also have to mount the component speaker by it. The tweeter shouldnt be at max 6" away from its compnent speaker. Also the imaging wouldnt be as good mounting them there. The windsheild is not flat so the wayves would bounce of exactly. I would also increase to the 6 1/2" components. If you want to use the stock location use the angle mount that comes with them. Just paint it to match your interior to give it a factory looik.

i'd stick with 5 1/4 vs. the 6 1/2

at least from my perspective with boston pros, the 5 1/4 were a lot sharper
