sub box help

L X W X H divided by 1728, that is the formula to calculate cubic feet for boxes. 19 x 13 x 16 = 3952, divide by 1728 = 2.29 cubic feet. Just start playing with trunk measurements that will work and see what you come up with.

FYI.. I've designed a couple boxes for the 92-99 bonnevilles and the largest you'll fit in there is 38x38x16. and you have to dismantle the backseat to push it through. it as so big it would have lost sound porting back to it was sealed off from the trunk and ported through the baffle with the subs. it knocked

were theres a will there a way haha. just build 2 of the same size ported boxes and bolt them together after puttin them in the trunk. might be a pain but hell....where there a will theres a way and real bass needs space nah meen lol.my box is 36x17x15.5 IIRC and i had to shave off a top front edge of the box to fit it in lol. its 4.33 gross. areo ports would work pretty good since they would need less port area.

power doesn't blow a sub, clipping does. don't heat up the coil and it won't blow.
lower you tune, louder the lower notes are, but higher notes fall off faster. 33Hz is a good place to start. Usually a lower tune contributes to higher power handling.
and if your amp gain is set up correctly, it won't blow. That'* why people put 6000+ rms to a 2500w sub and it doesnt blow, but half of the kids in any high school with systems have blown subs.

actually clipping is thee number 1 cause of subs going out unless in a comp and the people are givin hell. im running around 2k to a 1500 rms sub and never got it warm. so ther is lots of truth as far as clipping goes. and i go by alot of people who are known in the audio world. i know blackfriday is one who will agree with me on that lol. i meen to be fair it wont be that way on a no name brand or a more entry level sub. i wll say for daily music and not alot of low lows needed then 35 -40 would be good for a variety of music. mine is tuned to 37 and hits the lows and highs just fine. adjust the x over right and no probs. like blackfriday said adjust the subsonic no less then the tunigh of the box and that wont cause over heating on the coil. oh yeah..... LOUD BASS FTW HAHAHAHAAAA just have some fun with it thogh bonne99. if your not buildin a huge compe system then have fun and change things til your happy. if your having a tough time gettin there thn you have been bit by the audio bug and will most likely never be lol
