Satellite Radio
Who'* got it? I am thinking of doing this(Sirius, since I have a Kenwood HU). I want to know where the antenna is mounted on some cars. I'll probably install it myself because the package is cheaper at Best Buy and I don't trust those install crooks.

I had it about a year ago. It was the older Delphi XM unit. Not too bad... it had some good programming such as NASCAR and Fox football. I had the antenna simply velcroed to the dash as it blended in pretty well in my truck. The older units had a problem with a constant hiss when used with FM modulators but the problem from what I hear has been corrected.
I'm not familiar with Sirius at all.

I have XM in my Bonneville and enjoy it a lot. Makes the ride to and from work a pleasure. You should check out this site and pay attention to the hardware that is offered for sale by XM.

I have sirrus from dish network [in the ch6000 range]. I like their programming for the genre of music i listen to. My dad has xm in his escalade, and it'* not quite as cool IMO.. however I don't listen to heavy metal in his cars.. apparently he doesn't like that type of music .
The majority of SUV'* have them on their roof, just above the windsheild. I have seen aftermarket systems on the rear decklid, and some on the rear deck. Personally, I wouldn't put it in plain view, then theives can see it, know you have good audio, and steal something. Just too tempting IMO. I don't know how well it would work, but you could try mounting it behind the dash, or some creative place, so it is hidden. However, your signal may not be as good, because of that.

I have Sirius in my ride too. I have my antenna in the rear, above the rear windshield. Tuner is in the trunk.
Only place to mount it IS in plain view. However, I believe there is a low-profile antenna available, plus you can paint it to match the car if you want to go stealth. If thieves do end up jacking the system, it wont work for them, and here are the reasons why:
1) The coaxial lead for the antenna is very thin and kinks very easy. If a thief wants the ant, he will have to take his time undoing what you did in order to route the lead, which usually involves going around the windshield glass and in the trunk.
2) You cant use satellite radio without a head unit. Kenwoods can be set with a code, that unlike the Delco-Locs, CANNOT be reset once inputted. The thief couldn't even pawn it unless he knew the code, and how to input it.
3) When you activate the service, you have to give them a code, called the ESN. It is a serial number burned into the satellite receiver unit, which cannot be changed. This lets them be able to beam down your signal to your unit. The flip side to this is it sort of also acts like a GPS...if they wanted to, they can track your movements with the car. If said thief succeeds in getting around items 1 and 2, you can call Sirius themselves about the problem. I would think they could either permanently ban that ESN from being activated or wait until it has been turned back on, and track it.
Man, that was longer than I thought it would be. I have had my service for a year now, and not one break-in, and Daytona really isnt known for its lack of crime...plenty of sirens everyday here.

I've had xm for a year and a half now. It'* alright I guess, although I rarely use it. My antenna is mounted on the corner of the dash, on the passenger side. Very rarely drops a signal.
