Default Speaker Reccomendations?

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice...

Just got my 96 SSEi this August and it had to go under the knife almost immediatly
I knew this when buying it but since the mechanics a friend of ours and did the work on the side (and on the cheap...cost not quality ) when not working on his Hot Rod, I ended up heading back out to College before I could get her back. I went home last weekend and dropped off my Grand Cherokee to pick up the Bonnie and on the four hour drive back to school the sound was killing me compared to the Jeep'*.

It'* not distorted or full of static but in comparison seems high/squeaky with hardly any low end or mid... I have the premium sound package on my Grand Cherokee but somehow doubt i'm spoiled

plus my exhaust is much to loud...

So other than Dynomat / Peel n Sealing

I'm wondering what speakers/HU combinations or other things I can try to improve sound some of the guru'* here would reccomend

or just some decent speakers that would work well with the factory CD player
I'm relatively clueless as a audiophile so any input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance.. you guys rock

the first thing you need to establish is a budget. I could reccomend a couple thousand dollar system or something along the lines of a just a few hundred.

There are a lot of choices out there, it all comes down to what you really feel like spending.

budget would most likely be between 400-600

yeah i should be more specific in what i'm interested in

bascially just want to get it sounding right

not quite easy listening atm if you know what i mean

My friend installs systems for Best Buy back home so he'* going to help me out

He said he'd check out some things when he went into work this weekend

The chances of you gettings GOOD stuff as far as speakers and amps there isn't likely. If he is willing to buy with his employee discount, for a HU go ahead. I personally did not like any of their HU'* and end up being a Pioneer from scratch and dent crutchfield. (it was flawless)

As for speakers, are you willing to do work to mount them or do you want bolt up stuff?

I personally reccomend CDT audio to anyone looking for speakers but there are a lot of other companies out there. Dont like the prices on their website sway you away. You can get them much cheaper.

If you are going to do aftermakarket speakers you will probably want to amp your speakers as well. Get an amp that is in your price range and that matches your speakers.(wattts)

EDIT: also, what kind of music do you listen to ?? do you like highs? lows? all around ? or just clear and dont care if the highs are ear piercing ?
