Speaker crackling
my mom has a '96 SE, and I am pretty hard on the speakers (I guess) and they are starting to crack. Not phisically (they could be physically but I cant see through the grill) but when playing music. The front speakers (not the tweeters) are starting to do it a lot.
Any suggestion on what can be done to prevent complete destruction, if there is anything I can do?? replacing them with aftermarket isn't an option.(even though I would like that) |
Turn the bass level down and dont listen to it so loud! But you should replace them in the future.

my passenger side 3.5" speaker crackles when I had it loud, then turn it down.. I am thinking its just the head unit or something in the wiring, but never does it have a problem when listening to it.

When i turn it down it doesn't do it as much but it still crackles. And the other think is when I turn the volume down 1 notch, the speaker almost make little popping sounds. They do this for each notch I turn the nob. |
OK heres the problem, the volume knob is dirty. It loses contact inside when you touch it. The only way to fix this, is to remove the deck and take the sheet metal cover off. Once you get it off you need to spray some kind of Contact Cleaner into the volume knob assembly, and blow it out with compressed air. It should stop crackling and work like normal as long as you put it back together right.
*IMPORTANT* make sure that you SET THE UNLOCK CODE before you unhook it or else your deck may go into protection mode and not turn on. |
