Default 1989 Rear Speaker Help....

I have tried to take off the speaker covers, and I am afraid to yank on them too hard, because they are making a pretty nasty cracking sound....and I don't want them to break.
I looked in the trunk under that cover, but that metal bar is there. How do I get to the speakers to remove them? I can't figure it out.
Also, I am putting in 6x9'*...Will they just drop in, or are they too big? I want them to just mount in, and be able to place the cover back on....I don't want it to look like I've done anything. I also wonder if that gain bass thingy will work still if I remove the factory speakers. Everything else with the system is stock....front speakers and head unit aren't getting replaced.
It'* an 89 sse....Thanks for the help!

If you have the separates in the rear, you will need to remove the carpeted deck cover to get at the mounting screws. The upper part of the rear seat needs to be removed first.

Does the seat back just clip in, like the bottom part does?

The two large nuts that hold the inner seatbelt latches hold the seat down. Remove the two nuts and the seatbelt latches. Lift the seat back up and then forward over the three hooks that hold the top of the seat.

One thing, the GAIN control will not work because the aftermarket speakers do not have a seperate voice coil for the bass. DO NOT splice the wires together, just tape them up and keep them isolated. Also you may want to unplug the seperate tweeters in the rear deck (if you have them) because they may interfere with the new 6x9 tweeters. I am definately in favour in keeping the stock look, dont need to have your speakers stolen by some loser
