Default All of Sully'* Questions in one Thread

I've got a bunch to ask, and instead of making separate threads, I figured I'd just contain them all here.
First: I was using a radar detector for a few months, and was satisfied with it. One night, I pulled it out of the cigarette lighter (the one mounted on the roof), and the metal contact that plugs into the lighter outlet stayed in there, but the plastic housing on the end of the power wire pulled out. So the connector is stuck in the outlet, and it'* flat, so I can't get it out with pliers. Does anyone know a way to get it out (or have an extra power cord or cigarette lighter)?
Next: I've always thought a hard-wired radar detector would be the easiest way to go. Does anyone know the easiest way to hardwire my detector so it runs off of the battery and not the cig. lighter. I want it switched, so when the ignition is off, it would go off too (unlike the cig. lighter).
LEDS: I bought a lit dash kit from humount.com for my aftermarket CD player. It comes with 5 LEDs, each with a positive and negative tail, that all need to light up in order to properly display my Bonneville faceplate. I've asked Bill about 1000 questions on this thing, and still can't get it to light. Using the illumination wire off of my wiring harness, how can I get all 5 LEDs to light up at once.
Lights (should be in electronics): I need reccomendations for new headlamps (highs and lows) and also new fogs. I am disappointed with the stock lights, so I am looking for an improvement without breaking the banks. Silverstars, Hella, Angel eyes (??) I want to know what you guys liked best. I want to get everything done before the snow hits so I know it'* a lot of questions but any answers that get even one question answered would be fantastic. Thanks.

go buy a new one at the auto store....... along with a new cig plug.

wire it into a relay under the dash or find a pos. & neg. lines that are only on with the key in the on pos. use volt meter for this.

take one wire, cut it into little sections and soilder to the pos side of each LED...do the same for the neg side....you will than end up with one pos and one neg to attach to the illumination wire of your HU...i hope that makes sense to u..

I and most of the other guys/girls here have silver stars...worth the money...angel eyes is a good choice for fogs...alot of other users here use them..i myself havent gotten any yet..... i hope this helps ya!! others will chime in maybe with better thoughts than I..but its a start for ya! good luck!

Sully.... Come down here for Bfest and we'll solve all these problems....

The lights..postive side (white or red led wires) to the illuminated dimming wire. When you test it with a meter turn the lights all the way up..12volts..turn down..probably about 8 volts. Black side to ground or negative.

The cig problem.. Gently get the pieces out. Go to radioshack and get a lighter extension cord.. cut the end off.. wire it in with a fuse to a switched power source. (this way when you turn car on ..it comes on..and off it goes off). Totally automatic. Got this in my truck..been doing it for years.

Orrrr like I said..find part of a day that you were going to spend tring to do this and come to bfest..eat drink...have fun and we'll do it together.

Radar Issue: So I should be able to use one of these: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=071-580 along with a kit from autozone (or something) that has a power and ground wire coming from the power plug of the radar, hook the power to that fuse piggyback and the ground to a ground source, and voila?
