Remote key fob question

I'm wondering if I could use a remote key fob for my '03 Malibu...it does have power locks, and, a trunk button on the dash. I was told by the service people at my dealership that a key fob wouldn't work because my car doesn't have power windows. Is this true?

adding an oem remote on newer cars is going to be a dealer thing even if it has the receiver they have to program everything to work. its easier and most times cheaper to get a aftermarket remote start/keyless entry and put it in yourself

I don't really want an aftermarket remote start/unlock unit, I'd rather have the OEM stuff. If my car has the receiver, where on the car would it be located?

This might work for you...

1. Get in car close door.
2. Hold the door unlock button down.
3. Turn key to power on(not start) ON, OFF, ON, OFF
4.Once you turn it back to off, let go of the power lock button. If the door locks lock and unlock themselves then you have the module.
5. Go find a key fob.

the aftermarket ones work better and 3 to 4 times further than the gm ones. i put one on my last monte i could start my car from inside the building at work, the gm one i have to go outside and half way across the parking lot before it will work. and it was two way so you know if it worked. im thinking about getting another one for this car

Well, I tried to do what you listed to do, and, the locks didn't unlock/lock themselves, so, I guess I don't have the module... :(

'The other thing you can check is go to www.compnine.com, enter your car's VIN, and see what option codes (RPO's) were included in your car. See if it lists power locks.

If you don't have it already, aftermarket is cheaper and easier to install.
