92 might help Pinkie to ID a few wires..but it's not the same wire by wire.

you could just go to the jy, cut the connector off a junker, and splice it to yours (matching wire colors of course). then plug your adapter on the "new" factory plug.

Yup. That's why I have to do a continuity check to determine the proper wires. Kinda sucks since I have to make my multimeter's wires longer so they reach.

Check for voltage... that will give you power, ground and dimming of lights. Check for resistance - that'll give you a green wire for steering controls Look around at speaker swap threads for colors to the speakers..(in the pics) By then..you should be really close. |
Ahh, see now I didnt think of that. Makes me feel kinda dumb.

Just be REALLY careful, when reverse-engineering what wires are what. I once identified a ground wire that really was grounded -until you turn on the headlights, and then it goes +12v to run the radio's lighting. Blew out a fuse that took out my tail lights when I turned the radio on with the lights on. (This was on my old 78 Bonneville.) -I got pulled over and got a fixit ticket.
I have a 97 FSM, if there's any part of it that will help you I can scan it for you. Do you still have the connector that your friend cut off? If so, you should highly consider splicing it all back on. I'd recommend soldering and heat-shrinking all the connections. Then just use a wiring harness adapter from anyplace. Crutchfield sells them cheap if you need one. |
