Default key fob remote

I bought a 2006 Grand Prix and the key fobs don't work. I tried new batteries but that didn't help.
can a person fix them?
So I see on eBay I can buy OEM fobs for a good price . much cheaper than the dealer. But either way I have to pay the dealer to program them. Or do I? anyone know If I can program them?
My other choice Is Ace hardware has after market fobs that I can program. I haven't looked at them yet so I am not sure they are 5 button fobs (remote start) or not.
Any ideas?
Thanks Brian

Mods...If this is a duplicate post please delete one. I was having computer (Operator ?) issues.

Try this..go out to the car and get in...
1. Put key in ignition
2. Hold down UNLOCK
3. Turn key to power on(not start) and back to off 3 times. So, its on, off, on, off
4. Release the UNLOCK button
5. The door locks should automatically LOCK and UNLOCK by itself. You are now in programming mode.
6. Hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first key fob for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, the doors should lock and unlock indicating the fob is programmed. Repeat step 6 again for the second remote.
7. Turn ignition power back to ON and then back to OFF. Program mode is now off.
8. Test both remotes.

If that doesn't work, try this:

Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Close all of the vehicle'* doors.
Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse panel. Refer to Electronic Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ACC position.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder OFF, then back to ACC within 1 second.
Open and then close any vehicle door. You will hear a chime when the remote control door lock receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode. If you do not hear a chime, start again at step 1.

Important
After 7 seconds, you may hear a chime confirming successful synchronization. After approximately 14 seconds, you will hear a chime confirming successful programming.

Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
Repeat step 8 in order to program each additional transmitter.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Install the MALL PGM fuse back into the fuse panel.

I bought new fobs on eBay ...$40 for the pair. The dealer wanted $120 each and I was able to use my work discount and they still wanted $80 each, so I felt pretty good about that purchase.
I tried both those methods to program them and couldn't get it to work. So I ended up taking it to a Chevy dealer and that went pretty good. They only charged me $ 39 to program 2 fobs Which of course is more than I would like to pay but they Quoted me at $50 so I felt good about it.
I am into the 2 working fobs $80. With remote start. nice!
I am happy
