Have a '96 SSE with CD, 7 band eq, gain slider and 4 wire rear speakers. I am replacing the factory original speakers with some new Pioneer 3-way TS-6971 full range 6x9'*. Can someone tell me which wire pair colors power the full range speaker and which pair colors power the bass that comes from the gain control amp? I am going to disconnect the gain control and run only the full range Pioneers.

I am also installing some new 5.25 Pioneer 2-ways full range in the doors. Are there any helpfull hints when removing the door panels. I hate to brake a bunch of plastic clips if I can avoid it.

your best bet would be to rewire it entirely...

You're gonna have to cut them any way. Cut one set and figure out which part of the speaker quit. That'* what I did. Maybe someone with a 96 FSM can tell you.

It is not neccessary to "rewire it entirely." If you have a good HU and weak or damaged factory speakers go get some good full range aftermarket speakers and you can make a nice sounding system for cheap.

Thanks for the reply "jwikoff99". That'* pretty much what I did and the polarity is marked on the factory speakers so that helped.

I used Pioneer TS-A6971R 3-way 6x9'* in the rear and TS-G1340R 2-way 5.25'* in the doors. TS-G1370R 3-way was my first choice for the doors but they did not have them in stock.

$130.42 for 2 pair of speakers and it took me 2 hours to do the install. Here are the wire colors that I used to install full range speakers in a '96 SSE with 2 speaker grills in the door.

Left rear Yellow -
Brown +

Right rear Light Blue -
Dark Blue +

Left front Grey -
Yellow +

Right front Dark Green -
Light Green +

Disconnect all small factory installed tweeters (small grills mounted next to the larger speakers).

This system won't knock the world off it'* axis but if you are over 40 and just want a good clean sound without waking the dead, this works very well.

If the new x9'* are like all the other'* i've seen then
I dont understand why you all dont feed the gain
to the standard x9 spades....

Then cut the lead that feeds the "high end" meaning
the center mid/tweet wire hanging off the back of
about every pair of x9'* I've seen so far which
just tapp'* at the spade and feed your other
pair of wires there....

Still gain for the bass and seperate feed for the
mid'* high'*....

Look at the new speakers and see how the central
mid/tweet'* are fed from the spades...

Seems to be the easy solution no-one seems to
get - with a few posts on the subject....

Be just like factory.....

Makes sense to me, I would try that but I just bought an aftermarket deck... Someone else should try this and let us know how it works!
