Is this a radio with a CD Changer Outlet ?

Since i dont have a CD Changer i would like to know if the long outlet in the middle is for the CD Changer ?

If not, which radios (96 -99 Bonneville) do have the CD Changer Outlet and do they still work with the Bose System ? ( A photo would be great !!)
Sorry for all those questions but in a radius of 5000 miles there is no junkyard that would have Bonneville Parts so i have no way of testing those stereos and i dont wanna end up buying 10 different radios just to find out that they are all wrong :? :D

Yes, the one on the Middle left is the CD changer slot.

Any Cassette player will be able to use the CD Changer from 94-99. CD players will NOT work with a CD changer unless you get Very Lucky (There are some 99+ radios in the Monsoon Firebird/transAms that the CD player could handle the CD Changer, but I have yet to find one reasonably priced)

I believe the 2 band ones will work with the Bose system, and I have heard people use the 7 band to upgrade it as the bose is the separate amp and speakers. I am not sure if the actual Radio unit differs at all.

Hope that helps.

thanxs 4 the answer. but how do you control the CD Changer or even switch to the CD Changer cause i dont see any controls or switches for a CD Changer like an Aux Button on those stereos. Is there an extra piece or control needed ?

This seems like a CD Radio that also has the outlet for a CD Changer

But i dont see any Aux Button !! Where is it ?

Please show a photo of the front of your radio. That way we can see what you see.

They both have the black outlet in the middle but nothing in the front !!

All the CD and Cassette players have the connection on the back for it, but most of the CD players do not have the ability to control the CD Changer.

If you look at the Cassette player here:

https://i12.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/c9/6d/45da_1.JPG You will see the Tape/Play button at the top. When the CD Changer is connected, that's how you switch between the two. Technically, it should say Tape/CD.

On the CD Players, I believe it has the ability to control a remove cassette, as some of the minivan's had that option.

*As an FYI, I have both the 2 and 7 band CD and Cassette players, and a 12 disc CD and a single disc CD remote unit, and have tested various combinations and manufacture year (94 through 99) and have researched it online as i've wanted the 12 disc changer with the single CD up front for a while.

Edit: This is one of the ones that should* work with the CD Changer. I say should because from what I read, the 99+ Monsoon ones had the option, but I will not guarentee it as I have not tried one myself.

I don't know the specifics of these head units. In general, the "CD/PLAY" button will scroll through all the devices (i.e. CD player, CD changer, Tape, etc.). If the head unit is new enough to use the Class 2 Serial Bus, all of the devices will be daisy-chained together on the data line and share the audio wires.

The serial bus communicates which device is supposed to be on and the others will be off. The limitation is in the software that says which device is on. Earlier units may not have the software to control a changer but will control a remote cassette (I don't know enough about this to be sure).

My 2001 head unit will select between the cassette and CD in the head unit, an also a CD changer. The later years will also control an XM radio.

If the software for the Class 2 Serial Bus is able to select a changer, it will be the "CD/PLAY" button you will use. Also, an iPAC-OEM will connect to that connector and possibly allow for an iPod to be used in place of the changer (if the head unit will support it).

So now i bought a Pontiac Monsoon Radio out of a Trans Am 2002 which was connected 2 a CD Changer. The Buttons, and Steeing controls are all the same so it hopefully will work. I will know in a few weeks when everything is here and i will keep you posted if it hopefully works !!

That should work for you. Let us know how it goes.
