You should ask him..

Yeah, he explained it before in another post I've seen. It's basically like a sub box for speakers if I remember correctly. I planned on doing that also if I ever replace my 6x9s, but let's wait for Pat to chime in.

Eric, this doesn't belong in General Chat. I can think of another section though.

VigCS is either using them or tried it at one point

yup, i did.....and they are now peel and sealed the entire way around. It takes the speaker from a free air to a enclosed one.
they work great, Makes the Speaker sound 100 times better (tested with and W/O) CorvetteCrazy Tried the Crutchfield ones and Garb had them too....They were made poorly....Rob can comment on them tho.....I was going to get the Crutchfield ones, and was told not to wast my money on them, and the Gladware was cheaper and more effective I have them on the front 5.25's and the rear speakers too |
the function is to isolate a trunk mounted sub box
from your main drivers. When the sub hits it forces the driver's cone into movement as well - usually resulting in the mains hitting full excursion and bottoming out. Sounds aweful when it happens so it's standard practice to isolate the rear of the speaker cone from the trunk when using a big sub box. The 2k dont have this kind of space between the torsion bar and the magnet on the speaker. I too used peel & seal but on the mains basket it would be perfered to have some volume of air behind the main's tho' (like a sealed enclosure) Great idea for DIY! There are also skins sold for water protection in many sizes that is more typically used behind door speakers. Serve the same purpose and provide a little more flexibility with install. But I'll agree with the prior posts that they would not perform nearly as well as a rigid type of box enclosure. |
