Well there is some sort of short somewhere in the system in the front. Do these component speakers have a seperate crossover unit??
Where do they get loose?
The whole driver side channel just dies for a second until I hit another bump or turn.

the GM system for the front on the bonnes is set up like this. there are 4 wires that are for the front 2 (+) and 2 (-) channels. then the the channels split somewhere inside hte dash. into 4 (+) and 4 (-) channels 2 for each side. the 2 channels are the same one plug is for the tweets and one is for the 5.25. the same signal is sent to both wires. the tweet has a bass blocker on it that prevents the low frequences from damaging the speaker.

I was thinking it is grounding on the body somehow or a connector is loose.
Does anyone have any idea where the speaker wires "split into 4 wires for each door" in the dash????
ahhhh.

they are HIDDEN in the dash, there is no way without tearing the dash all the way out to the firewall, to fing the wires. I think that there could be a cut wire or a pinched wire. Is it the drivers side front, or the back of both?

I'm not sure what vehicle we are talking about here but my 93 diagrams are showing splices S510 & S512 to be in the driver'* door. This is there the 2 wires become 4 for the left components.
When the aftermarket headunit was installed, was a wiring harness used ot were the factory connectors cut off? I'd probably start at the radio and inspect the wires in the connector. With the radio connected but not installed, move the wires around to see if you can duplicate.
I hate intermittent problems... they can drive you crazy chasing them down.

All I can say now is the door panels on the bonnies are much better.
I took those off and saw a purple and brown wire come out of the bottom speaker and there are 2 wires connected to the speaker that go to the tweeter which has a cheap inline crossover.
Well after taking everything out trying to find a short by moving connectors and such, it appears it is not in the doors after all.
The speakers both have plastic mounts for the screw holes so the wires are not gounding out to the body.
What else could it be that would be killing the left channel?
The probem occours in my pioneer deck, my stock cd player and my old stock tape player. When I turn or brake hard it will cut in or cut out for a few minutes or just a second sometimes.
I worked at a shop as an installer so I should know what I am doing as far as installing a deck correctly.
So my only guess is a broken or damaged wire somewhere relating to the left channel only. So for the 2 wires that come out of the door are they connected to anything else besides the inputs on the deck?

hans check this ok, play the radio and slowly open/close the drivers door (harder if this doesnt do anything) and see if the speakers start playing at any point.
my bet is that one or more wires in the rubber bellows that goes from the body to the door itself has broken in half. I have seen this problem relating to door locks/ windows/ and speakers in all manor of vehicles and almost always on the drivers door (it is after all the most opened/closed door on the car LOL)
as you open/close the door over time the wires inside the bellows will get bent (some wires more than others depending where in the bundle it is) and will eventually work harden the copper strands causing them to break and cause an open circuit sometimes it does this inside the insulation where you cant see it (you will notice a part of the wire that is much more flexible than next to it) but allot of the times you will see that the insulation has split also (allot easier to find LOL)
now the fun part is the rubber bellows sometimes you can relese it from the body/door and slide it outa the way to look for the wires (sometimes the bellows is attached to the harness when they make it so sometimes its a real PITA!)
or my method slit the fu#%er! just cut it down the middle lengthwise (do it toward the bottom of the bellows as it will keep the water outta it) to get to the wires (then solder/shrinkwrap em to fix it) and when your done 2-3 black zipties!
not often have i seen problems with factory sealed splices in the harness (unless it'* a plow/salt truck!)
and since you tried two radios you can bet that the radio itself doesnt have a blown channel-and it'* an intermitent problem i would say look at the wires inside that bellows!
just looking at it you can see how the wires can be pinched/bent inside it when opening/closing the door.
hope this helps ya!
regards, James

Hans you have never addressed if it was the front or the whole channel going out. If it is only the front I as i said earlier there is a wire somewhere that could possibly been rubbed bare, or cut in some fashion
