tweeter location
I am gonna be adding a set of components to my front doors. I am thinking of adding the new tweets to the windhield pillars. If I do would it be better to place them up high or in the middle. I know you need the soundstage as high as you can get it, but would the middle be better for the path to your ears??
Thanks for the help

realistically you should put them at ear heightish or as close to it as possible.
If I were you I would wire the amp and all that and then have someone hold the tweeter and move it until you like it. Then tape it into place and move around in the car, get in and out a few times, and see if you like that location at that angle.
The buick has tweeters at the tops of the doors and I placed my CDT ones near that location and they sounded WAY WAY brighter than chillin at my knees in the bonneville. They were to the point where even on -3db I thought the tweeters should have been turned down.

I think they should be as close as the cross over speakers for full stereo effect. Having them up high will pull your ear out from the midrange and sound off?
Maybe you could pull it off using the cross over to image a neutral pattern from the respected sound region? ie left and right?

The tweets are at the top of the door panel in my 02. The only problem is the way the dash is made on the driver'* side, it blocks alot of the highs. The passenger side sounds killer though. That is why I was asking what you all thought.
Maybe I could fab up a bracket to angle the drivers side out more??
Thanks.,
Tim

Somebody once told me that adding tweeters to....now bear with me....the rearview mirror, facing the windshield, is the *best* place for highs. Why? Because you do not have to run much power to them at all, and both left and right tweeters will reflect sound off of the windshield, creating a phantom center channel.
This is what I was told eons ago. Dunno if it is true or not, but it does make sense.

if you put the 6 1/2 in the doors then you should mount the tweeters somewhere on the doors.
im speaking from advice and experience... i have 3 componet sets in my 1988 bonneville.. i put 1 set customized to fit in my fromnt dash panel. 2nd set on my driver and passenger front doors and the 3rd set on my rear deck in the middle of 2 8'' beyma midrange speakers.. the sound is amazing as was told by many that i can be heard from about 6 to 8 blocks away..
