Default 95 SSE rear speaker problems

I just tried to replace my rear 6x9'* in my '95 and found that the factory speakers have 2 sets of wires per speaker (2 positive 2 negative). Does that mean they are dual voice coil? Anyways I tried to replace them with pioneers with only 1 set of wire connectors on the speaker itself, meaning normally you would only hook up 1 positive and 1 negative to it. So I ran a jumper wire allowing me to connect both factory positive and negative wires to the pioneers. After doing so I could indeed hear sound so I decided to hook them both up screw them down and try it with both speakers in. The result was distortion at fairly low volume and sputtering gauges.

Anyone have any idea what to do to solve this problem? I have a feeling that it'* because I connected 2 sets of wires to speakers only made for 1.

check the resistance of your factory speakers. They are probably 2 ohms and your pioneers are 4. if you ran your wires parrallel to your pioneers, the amp is probably seeing a much lower impedance and doesnt like it

I don't believe I have an amp. I have the premium sound package but not the monsoon. Although I could just be ignorant and maybe I do have one. So let'* say the pioneers are 4 ohm and the factory speakers are 2 ohm. What would I do to solve that problem.

Also, you said something about running in series instead of parrallel. What would I do to solve that problem if it is indeed that.

My car has a total of 8 speakers, 2 6x9'* with a seperate tweeter for each, and 2 5.25'* with a seperate tweeter for each. I'm also putting in a headunit that'* made for only 4 speakers and a sub, so I thought about running new wires to the back 6x9'* (since my 6x9'* are 3 way and already have a tweeter) and to the front 5.25'*, but I'm worried that the factory 5.25'* have the same 4 wire setup at the 6x9'* and I won't be able to connect them to my aftermarket headunit.

It'* quite the conundrum, help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm betting you have the Bose system. If you plan on putting in a new H/U you might as well buy new 5.25'* and run new wires all over the place. That would convert you to a 4-ohm system, and get you better results.

That'* been my plan the whole time, but I just wish I was able to put 6.5'* in there instead, I can get a good deal on some nice speakers. It doesn't seem as though they would hit the window if I put 6.5'* in the front, the only problem I can forsee is that the factory speaker covers may not fit.... Not sure though.

That'* what I'm putting in my front doors. They are shallow mount too. I also have new wire rand to all my speakers and will be putting in an aftermarket amp for all my speakers. Got rid of that Monsoon crap.

Nice, my sub is an infinity so I thought I'd get some infinity kappa'* to put in the front. Do you think 6.5'* will fit? Because I know the difference is worth it.

Also, agreed... Monsoon has never impressed me.

Ha very true. What did you have as far as factory speakers size in your doors. I haven't even taken the door panels off yet so I don't even know what it looks like under there.
